I wonder how many people are used to monitor such things. Probably more than we know!
It rather reminds me of the time when I was, as it goes, routinely asked to empty my pockets before going through the detector in an airport a few years ago. Shoes off and all that ...
My key ring consits of a couple of essential keys on a simple spring ring that is attached to a five inch long probably eighteenth century [two lever] key, for which I do have the original foot wide oak cased lock. The security guy picked the key up and asked what was this ... I smiled and said it was my front door key, and then he asked if I lived in a castle. I said that that the house was large, but surely he must know that?
"Don't you know who I am?"
He replied that he did not.
"Oh, that's alright," I said, "not everyone does!"
It raised a smile alround!
But I would imagine there is a big difference between a harmless bit of fun and some thom-fool comment that they must have heard a hundred times before. Everyone with responisibility likes to take their job seriously, and why not? Of course there will be times when they seem to be being too careful, but I'd rather that than being too slack.
