NDX doesn't play all FLAC files

Posted by: dickey on 31 January 2012

Hi,

My NDX does play most FLACs, but not all. Of one album it did play the flacs some weeks ago, but not anymore. I can listen all files via my laptop with VLC player so there is nothing wrong with the files. Anyone has an idea how this can be solved?

Thanks!

Regards,

Dick

Try deleting the artwork embedded in one of the offending files and see if the problem goes away.

If this works I suspect your artwork is too big for the NDX.

Thanks, but it doesn't solve the problem. Complete albums (all files in it) don't open. With the n-stream app i can search via artist/album to the album i want. Then i have to click the first song to start the album. The app says "connecting" but after a second it stops and goes back to the list of songs on the album. Sometimes i get a short message "can't play, station unavailable". But it is all on the same NAS drive

Only files in the folder are FLAC files, i've deleted the rest (playlists, pics, textfiles).

Now i'm trying files that did play before, but it looks like all FLAC files refuse to play.

I'm sad...

Hi Dick

In the short term, probably turning off the NDX and turning it back on again will solve the problem.

Do you have the latest firmware for the NDX? This does seem to solve all the FLAC problems that I used to have.

Hi if the above oesnt work, try converting to WAV and see if it playout, it should be identical. You can always reconvertback to flac. I used to expierience theI odd FLAC file which wouldn't decode on the NDX. I know transcode all FLACs to wavs bymy upnp server and I don't have problems

Hi Steeve, thanks! Turning it off and on again worked. I Will have the sw upgrade soon and also the hw change. I hope that this issue doesnt happen too often in the meantime since i dont like turning it off and on too much. Regards, Dick

FLAC playback is better with the 3.9 software although I still see the occasional "input resetting" reboot of the streamer board when I try and play a 16/48 rip from a DVD after I've been playing lots of 16/44.1 rips from CD. If I go back and play the same 16/48 file again it doesn't reset so I've been unable to reliably reproduce the crash.

I've been having a lot of problems with my SSD finding and more often than not unfinding FLAC files.  It finds all the ripped CD files ok.  However some days it finds the FLAC files on the NASH drive and other times you see them, click on the file -but there are no tracks to play!  The windows PC finds the FLAC files fine.  I am really frustrated with the SSD inability to find my FLAC files on some days -but on other days they are there.  The device has so little functionality built in to allow you to trace and fix these sorts of problems.  It would be great if NAIM had a CHM file or something that you could download to work out how to solve these sorts of problems.

Any ideas on how to get out of this expensive nightmare?  The NAS drive runs on Linux.
