John,

Is that just a Walkers company thing?

What about Golden wonder or shop brands that are not owned by Walkers?

Tony,

I checked my two  Walkers  24 packs delivered by Asda this week and they are both the 14-4-12 .

I wonder how many factories there are in the uk making crisps??

Sorry chaps, you must have reached the stage in life when you've not enough to think about and too much time to think about it...

As long as we eat the crisps too, where's the problem? Tony

The best before date on our ice-cream is always the last day of the month, giving a maximum best before life of eighteen months, though down to seventeen months and a day if the ice-cream is made on the last day of the month.

The storage must be at minus eighteen dgrees C or colder, and so of course we get the occasional complaint about graininess if the ice-cream has been repeatedly put through a change of temperature. the secret is a constant temperature, followed by rapid consumption once the container is opened and the product subjected to less cold temperatures.

The graininess is simply ice crystalisation and not an issue concerning safety, though grainy ice-cream is not pleasant on the tongue.

I wish I had some to check, but then there's all that weight to be lost. These are my favourite when visiting Cornwall. I'll check the date when next there and let you know.

From wikiAnswers: Sell by dates on Crisp packets end on a Saturday for the licencing trade. This is because normally dry stock rotation in pubs and clubs in on a Friday, therefore, sell by dates are on a Saturday to ensure sales up to and including stock rotation day. Tony

Sell by dates were only invented so you can break them!

That said I can't imagine a packet of crisps getting anywhere near its sell by date in my house; getting one hour past its bought by date being a challenge!

Its a good job they have not brought back the old Smiths Bovril crisps.

They remain to this day my most fav crisps of all time.

I used to get through boxes of those.

I did see a tv prog this week ,two cooks in a boat,

They went to a farm where the farmer makes and sells crinkle cut Apple and other fruit crisps.

On the subject of sell-by dates, I was in Waitrose earlier and noticed some Valentine's ready meals at a reduced price. They expire tomorrow....... Tony

Off topic but as you brought up Valentine, I respect Asda's chutzpa for marketing the 7p Valentine card! Nothing says 'I love you' like...
