Posting using an iPad

Posted by: Hook on 10 February 2012

Was the forum always this iPad unfriendly? I seem to recall, at some time in the past, being able to construct reasonable posts. But now, all carriage returns and line feeds are being ignored, resulting in one long, run on paragraph! How does one get Naim and/or Hoop-la's attention to fix this? How very annoying for both poster and reader! Hook

I have different issues using iPad 1:  the window creeps down with every letter I type, and spaces are erased about every fifth word.

Returns are good, for me.

Yes, same problem for me. I'm sure it was better a while ago so something's been messed with.

Hi Tony -

Glad to know it isn't only me, and that I was correct in thinking that it used to work better.

FYI, in order to get some attention, I've "reported" your post to the site mod.   Hopefully this will result in Richard letting us know what the formal procedure is for reporting forum usability bugs.

ATB.

Possibly connected with Oops.la's recent "upgrade"?

“Next week, we are rolling out a mobile interface for Hoop.la that makes the experience on a phone really incredible.  Hoop.la already works when viewing on a phone, but our new mobile UI is optimized for the "small screen", making the experience a joy.  (Users can also toggle to view the standard/non mobile view, as well, if they wish.)

We think Hoop.la Mobile is one of the most important updates we've ever released and it will provide all of your community members a much better experience when accessing via a phone (with no need to download an app).  I'll be posting more info about new mobile interface soon and, again, it will be rolled out to all Hoop.la sites sometime next week.”

Important update, eh?  Certainly not for naimaudio.com...

I guess Hoop-La is referring to all of those other fora it supports, those whose teenage membership simply can't wait until they get home in order to read and post.  I do hope they appreciate their incredible new experience.

Mine, on the other hand, sucks.

Try using a Itouch now ??You have to scroll through every page and fookin post.

to get to the latest  post.

What are you listening to now in the music room is not worth bothering with as you start at page one.

Over a year now and they are still Hooples.

I hope Focal don't start using them.

Just had to delete and reinstall the forum app.. Is it getting worse, I think so .....
Posted on: 13 February 2012 by Richard Dane

I've reported this to Hoop La.

As I'm not using an iPad, I can't actually check it out, but I'm more than willing to take it on trust...

From Hoop-La support;

the iPad issues sound like they are with the mobile web version (in mobile Safari), not the iPhone app.  We've had previous reports of this same issue.  I would suggest these users upgrade their version of iOS on their iPad to 5.0.  We've not seen an issue with this on iOS 5.0 at all, and we've also had a hard time recreating it even on iOS 4.3.

Re. the scrolling (Stu):

Assuming that they are using the mobile web version (in mobile Safari), if they click on the gear/sign in button in the top right, there is a link to jump to the last page of posts.  They don't have to scroll through every page, as he's describing.

One person also complained about having to uninstall and reinstall the iPhone app.  That shouldn't have been necessary, but I don't really have any idea what issue(s) he was having.

You do not want all these extra steps when you are surfing on a difficult mobile web connection.

Adrian,

just click on the standard view option and keep it there.  I much prefer it on the iPhone, even if it still has the habit of putting the reply box right at the top of the page...

Just updated my iPad to 5.0.1.

Am now testing if CR/LF works.

And the answer is....YES.  Hooray!

OMG, there is even support for gremlins!

This is good stuff.

Just curious - other than complaining via a Padded Cell thread, was there any way I could have determined for myself that iPad 5.0 was a prerequisite for forum usage?   Would like to try and stay ahead in the update game in the future.  Thanks!

My experience is with 5.0.1.

Still having the issues I described as recently as this morning.  Now, the screen-creepseems to have stopped.  But unwantedconcatenation isstill happening.

Another thing I just noticed was I no longer have to multi-click on a forum topic to open it!  That's been another long-standing iPad-related frustration of mine that's been addressed with upgrading the iPad software.

Hook, glad you got it sorted.  I guess it's just always a good idea to try updating browser or OS when issues crop up with updates.

Posted on: 18 February 2012 by Hook
Nick - What browser are you using? I don't know why or how, but the unwanted concatenation and screen creep just started happening to me inside of the Atomic web browser! This is the one I was using when I declared all was well a couple of days back....weird! Then I went over to Safari, thinking it might be better, only now the "post reply" button isn't working. Dead end. So finally I went to the 360 browser, and I am able to compose this reply with no unwanted concatenation or creep. Hook PS - Except now I am back to square one, and CR/LF is broken all over again!! AAARRGGH!!!!! Deep breath......has anyone using an iPad running 5.0.1 found a browser that actually works on this forum?
Posted on: 18 February 2012 by NickSeattle

Hi, Hook,

I gave up on other browsers for the iPad a while back.  Safari/iPad1/IOS 5.0.1 is working better for me today.  The concatenation issue is associated with spell-checking somehow.

Hi Nick -

Per your suggestion, I went under the iPad's Settings/General/Keyboard and turned off Auto-Correction.  Good call!  Now the erroneous concatenations have stopped, but the "Auto Creep" remains.

Oh well, this might just be as good as it gets...
