Sonos zp90 as source to snait

Posted by: Alexb on 14 February 2012

Hi all,

I now owm a nait 5i/cd5i combo with a sonos zp90 connected to the nait.

The cd player is now the source of choice for real listening. I am looking to buy a snait to replace the 5i nait. Can i thn sell the cd player and use the sonos as source? Or is the sonos not up for that?

Also i would like to Know how to connect the sonos to the snait? Do I use optical? With which cable?

All help is welcome!

I wouldn't sell the CD player just yet.  The Sonos is surprisingly good when used with a decent DAC, and will improve over the analog outs by using the DAC on the Snait.  I have one going into my NDX for Spotify and multiroom duties but it does ultimately fall short even with a DAC the quality of the NDX's.  I use Coax for mine.

I would keep the CD player and consider an ND5 XS or NDX for the future, at which point you could sell the CD player and move into streaming full time.

Have you considered a SuperUniti or a Nait XS with ND5 XS?

Have to agree I'd keep the CD5i over the Sonos.  As Brilliant as the software is on Sonos the sound does not cut it even with NDAC for me.   Squeezebox NDAC is great but if you are spending that kind of money a better streaming source from Naim or Linn with audition would I think be the best route with the amp you already have.   Source really is everything here.

Ok, so coax for the connection. The dc1?

SuperUniti would be an option, but no way to upgrade that with a ps correct?

How will the superuniti compare to my 5i/cd5i?
