Cabin Bag recs?

Posted by: JamieWednesday on 16 February 2012

I'm looking for a perfect size cabin bag for flights that can take lots of stuff, has some padding/protection for camera/laptop etc. and is decently made so will last. Some of the 'best buys' seem incredibly flimsy.

Anyone here got one they could cheerfully recommend?

Thanks

Jamie,

My Techair backpack is now around 5 years old, it has survived close to 600/700 flight legs.  It is still in great shape still.  It is well padded, takes a ton of stick and I have never broken anything - although I don't often carry my SLR camera in it.  For my full SLR gear I have a good LowePro bag that also has a laptop section.

Cheers

I ditched my leather pilot case around 18 months ago and replaced it with a Wenger Swissgear Legacy Triple 17" laptop messenger bag.  It's lighter, more comfortable to carry and offers better segregation of equipment/documents plus a dedicated laptop compartment.  After 18 months of being dragged on and off planes and around airports it still looks like new.  If you're looking to carry much overnight gear as well as a laptop and business documents/equipment you will need a bigger case though.  The product is backed by a lifetime guarantee.

Their range comprises rucsacs and messenger style bags as well as wheelie cases.

I bought mine on Amazon because some of the shops (notably at airports) seemed to be charging three times as much for the same case.

Bit pricey, but I just love the couple of Tumi pieces I have. Well thought out and impeccably made. Focus on function and quality over pointless "style". The synthetic (rather than leather) models are affordable (but still not inexpensive).

Solid, no questions asked, lifetime replacement policy  - which is evidence of their quality.

I've recently acquired a Wenger Shield wheeled pilot case which works well for me.
Only possible downside is that it is not lockable, so I'd not want to send it as checked in luggage.

Also, it is erring towards the top end size wise for cabin baggage. REMEMBER, different airlines have different size limits.

I use and recommend LOWEPRO bags - hi quality - reasonabley priced - and give good protection.

I've used the same bag for 10years with my camera gear and can see it lasting another 10.
