4K (or even 8K) Home Theatre Projectors

Posted by: Don Atkinson on 20 February 2012

I gather Sony are planning to release 4K home projectors at c.£18k per shot.

No films in this format yet so far as I know

Is it worth waiting for, or is Blu-ray going to get off the ground eventually ?

Cheers

Is the same standard used in some cinemas where 4K is part of the branding. I noticed at the local Vue cinema they had Sony projectors.

Derek, I think you are right. But I noticed that Sony were targetting the domestic market with an £18k projector fir the 4k format. Others were suggesting it might already be outdated given development of an 8K format...........

Don,

4k might make sense the day online services start providing higher resolution material or the broadcasting industry decides it's time to move on. In the meantime, it might make more sense when used on 3D TVs, as 4k resolution allows for a full 1080p passive 3D experience, when current full HD panels can only offer half the 1080p resolution in  this particular scenario.
