Am now officially a convert!

Posted by: Marley on 24 February 2012

Hello everyone!

First of all, I am now a proud owner of NDX/202/200 S400!. Been listening to it for over a week now. Previous system was CD5XS/SN/S400 as loaner program while waiting for the orders to come.

Music ripped using Itunes with different format (FLAC, ALAC, MP3 320kbps, WAV) Control via nstream on Iphone. Using Buffalo NAS 1TB connected all via ethernet.

First impressions of new system:

To cut the long story short: It is absolutely awesome! I don't have exact definitions but everything else is better! Thats it! The new system is waaaaay better overall even from the start. No more burn in required or whatever cable dressing, warm up time etc etc. I can tell easily from my own CD collection vs CD ripped in itunes. Clarity and detail is out of this world. My only small concern is it lacks a little bass for some types of music but most of what I listen to don't require these. (only my brother does) Go to a club! =)

I was skeptical at first, no way can a digital file stored in my computer sounds better than a good CD on a better CD player. But this has all changed!!! Everything are all stock. Same cables, interconnect, hifi rack,

room layout etc. Previous setup was a little boomy or muddy, (vocals not crystal clear and echoing sometimes)

Anyway, I would like to thank all of you here for sharing your knowledge. This is really a wonderful forum. I've been here since mid of last year and almost took me 6 months to finalize my system. A BIG thank you also

for my local naim dealer who has been very helpful and patient with my auditioning, even for the loaner program. You know who you are, THANK YOU

PS: I hope naim improves on the nstream app, its not the easiest to use honestly. Still needs a lot to do to edit album artwork, and album track listing to view correctly. And there is no FF or Rewind while playing music! Bye for now.

Cheers!!

does supernait make a sense?

Am with you. I demoed the ND5XS against the CD5XS last weekend. Am now spending every waking moment ripping my CD collection in anticipation of my new arrival. The difference between the two sources was night and day.

ok 8888.

The Supernait has a different sound signature than the Nac 202 + Nap 200, so if you like that sound signature the SN makes sense. The SN also has an onboard entry level DAC that may be used.

best wishes,

Peter

sure, the sn does has onboard dac but the inbuilding dac is not enough for me ,so i look for ndx maybe.

i have a squeezebox v3 into the sn onboard dac from a nas ,but the sq does net attract me.

SN is one of the best VFM out there. Heck I wouldn't go the separate route if I did not demo the 202/200. Balance is the key here, I think 202/200 has better synergy with NDX thats why it sounds so good.

Maybe try ND5XS instead of squeezebox since you already have and use SN internal dac. Why does the SQ not attract you? Can you explain more?

Marley Did you try supernait with ndx? Ndx really not much mach with sn?

I did try it with SN but resolution was not up to par with separates IMHO. plus you hav a redundant DAC if u use NDX and SN. Which btw NDX has a better built in DAC. I just wonder how the ND5XS compares with NDX but i am enjoying the music so much to even think about that and future upgrade. Hope that helps
