Cockroach + naim

Posted by: u14378503095606868 on 06 March 2012

Long time ago i used to have a tuner .., and i mentioned 1 or 2 cockroaches  within the tuner ..

I thought to myself why tuner is attractive to the cockroaches - may be because of radio waves ??

Now i think how to prevent the invasion of bugs into my costly system and could they damage it ?

Is it available out there in the market some electric device producing radiowaves particularly for different kind of bugs to prevent their unwelcome coming  ?

Thank You

Once upon a time I used to wonder what would happen if a nuclear weapon landed on my Naim system and whether there was anything I could do to prevent a full scale nuclear conflagration. I wonder if anyone out there knew of any devices which could prevent a nuclear holocaust and therefore save my Naim system?

Thanks,

This sets a new standard in questions on the forum.

PS - @Pedro -- you are correct sir, and hopefully my feeble attempt at humor has not brought those standards too far down from their lofty peak.

Thanks Hook,

I already have a copy of that fallout shelter guide but I was wondering what the effect of the bomb would have on the mains supply, as I've noticed my olive pre/power is very fussy about the quality of mains it is fed?

Ah, I do understand your concern Sister.  The good news is that I did some further research, and as you can clearly see from this diagram...

...the only Naim owners that need worry are those to the immediate southwest of ground zero!

So, assuming you do not draw an unlucky compass direction, it would appear your mains supply will be safe and sound.   May I suggest spinning up Barry McGuire's classic, "Eve of Destruction"?

Trolls are safe from EMP 'cause they live in deep dank dark cockroach infested caves

Hi Hook

It's at times like this that one must resort to humour. What else is there when asked such questions? My only worry is whether the fallout will hit Shropshire and can I come out of the cellar (hic!) now please?

Those of a nervous disposition should not watch Horizon tonight on Beeb 2

Scientists are expecting a fit of violent activity on the sun which will propel billions of tonnes of superheated gas and pulses of energy towards our planet. They have the power to close down our modern technological civilisation - e.g. in 1989, a solar storm cut off the power to the Canadian city of Quebec.

Official line is that it was a solar storm, in reality it was a particularly nasty cockroach infestation that impacted Quebec.

I was always told that cockroaches are very radiation-resistant and would be the only things left living after the blast.

I suspect the associated EMP pulse might even affect Simon-In-Suffolk's triple-shielded Cat. 6 Ethernet cables.  Obvious solution is to set off a second device to exactly counteract the electromagnetic field from the initial explosion.

But would they survive living in a Naim tuner?

Little-known fact that the original NAT01 was tested for nuclear blast resistance at the Maralinga range in the Australian outback.  Be reassured that no cockroaches were injured in these tests.

Hence the green glow of the display, I suppose!

Now Im beginning to worry whether my Lady Gaga headphones will survive an attack from Mars, but I'll leave that for another thread...

Lady G- would survive anything! Salut! Siss!!

Oh dear, I could be in trouble then. Assuming ground zero is in the UK, I'm approximately southeast, right in the thermal radiation zone!

Is 12,000 miles far enough away to minimise the damage?

Don't get too complacent.  British history is (strangely) not to detonate our nuclear weapons in our own green and pleasant land, but rather to try them out on the opposite side of the world.

Yeah, just over the hill from me, stay indoors when the westerly wind blows.
