Is 24/192 just very silly indeed?

This article seems to go into depth to prove that hires downloads are silly:

It reminds me of other articles proving that vinyl is so much better than digital media - just the other way round.

What do you think?

P.S.: Sorry, only just found out there there is already another thread about tis article.

Ah the old saw about how the 44 kHz sampling rate is more (presumably by a factor of 100%) than adequate because the human ear cannot perceive frequencies above 20 kHz.

I saw lots of theory to support this claim, but no mention of any double-blind ABX tests to back up the theory.

Proof huh? No scientists or peer reviews involved then.

Well dudes like that can write all they want. Quite honestly it is pointless, You can easily get hold of some high resolution and standard resolution files and compare them in the comfort of your own home - if you like one better than the other then go for it.

Fact - I think the 24/44.1 Abbey Road sounds better than the 16/44.1 Abbey Road, but I still prefer the vinyl and cassette versions I have.

[Note I didn't say one was better than the other just my own preference]

Fact - you can try this or similar yourself and either agree or disagree.

[What you like best is best for you]

Fact - I don't care if he had 1,000,000 people on his listening panel who all thought differently from me ... nothing's gonna change my world, to me his words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup, and they slither wildly as they slip away, but I say let it be.

Roy Harper wrote some very good notes on why he thinks he can do much better than iTunes or the 1990s releases of his catalogue. His ambition is to match the quality of the original vinyl releases. I say hats off to Roy (Harper),

I think the article writer probably doesn't have a Naim system and he's a bit sulky; we'd probably think he was a really nice Guy if we ever met him.

All the best, Guy

You can't hear it below 20Hz or above 20KHz but you can feel it.

I thought we had discussed this link before? Perhaps it was on another forum..

However unfortunately although I am sympathetic to some of what is said, his response is technically flawed and inaccurate (or at best over simplistic) with his section of oversampling and filters, and in turn then contradicts or in inconsistent with his discussion on intermod distortion.

Hires is not really about frequency range... It's about helping the ADC and DAC process to more accurately take place within a regular bandpass. (in my opinion)
