Speakers for SuperUniti

Posted by: Chris_C on 14 March 2012

I am looking to purchase a couple of Bookcase or Floor Standing speakers to accompany a SuperUniti unit. I would like to keep them as unobtrusive as possible given they will sit in my main lounge. So if floor standing they need to be relatively slim in appearance.

Budget: Approx £1500

Suggestions?

Thanks,

c.

Hi Chris,

I would seriously look at the new PMC twenty range, personally I am a big PMC fan, owning most of their range over the years but the twenty's are really rather special.

I run the HiFi department of a independant store in London and the SuperUniti with either the 23's or 24's are a very popular combination that work extremely well together, when I sit down and listen to either of these combinations I do wonder if you really could ask more from a stereo as you get a big sound for not silly money.

Hope this helps.

I had a good demo on Saturday of Kudos X2 playing through a Uniti. I would add them to your shortlist to audition as these little babies rock.

Harbeth P3 without any hesitation. I own a SuperUniti driving it's bigger brother, the SHL5. Easy load and very good on vocals.

For some, this is silly money already. :-)

I second the Kudos X2.  I would stick to british brands in england. I think you'll get better value for money.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Although I have to say that most suggestions appear to be pretty 'chunky' looking. C.

I have Neat Motive 3s (Atacama stands) with my SuperUniti/NAP200 the performance of which belies their size. I’ve then put Neat Iotas with my UnitiQute.

I am using Martin Logan Source with my SU. It is pretty good sound for reasonable money. My dealer is offering these for €1.500 / pair.

Eclipse TD 150s

I like the sound of the B&W PM1s

Guy - do you use a sub with the Eclipse?

Second the pm1 bower & wilkins

Using them with my SU they sound great now everything has burnt in, they seem to match the faster pace of naim.

I would agree with Tog and Ian - the PM1's match the SN - and therefore the SU perfectly, just listening to then now, great rhythm and nuance.

No Tog - the new Eclipse speakers have a better bass response than mine, but are bigger. I have very limited space in my office. You'll not get deep low bass from my TD 150s, but they do sound extremely good even when liberated from my office and put in my main system. I do have a Kef sub available, I might give it a go and see if it is beneficial.

An audition is essential, but you may just find them quite enchanting.

All the best, Guy

Hi all,

I am new to the forum so this is my first post.

I start Naim adventure with the Nait XS - Proac D1.

D1 and Nait XS sold, come D18 and I am now looking for Naim amp to match D18.

Source is SBT+Music fidelity DAC M1

Having been searching the forum for matching speaker to SuperUniti, but my observation reading various threads is that mostly stand mount or bookshelf speakers are used, like the advice in this thread

Given my situation already have D18, what is your advice on the SuperUniti? is it capable enough to drive the D18 efficiently?

Or, should I go the safer way, to 202/200 or SN+HC?

Many thanks

Try Spendor A3s for slim, unobtrusive and big sound. Work well with Naim too.

Thanks.

But my D18 is only 2 months and it sounded very good with my old Nait Xs, I don't have the intention to change.

I know a home demo is recommended, but this is not feasible with my area dealer.

The SU has a powerful amp and should drive most speakers. I'm using it with Monitor Audio GR60s (very large multi way floor standers) and it handles them very well. I previously had a pair of 135s and don't miss them.

It may be that the preponderance of shelf/standmount speakers is because people are partly attracted to the SU as a one box solution and they are short of space. Only way to find out is to dem the SU with the speakers you are interested in, preferably at home; but I wouldn't restrict my choice on size.

The Superuniti will be fine with the D18
