Asynchronous USB

Posted by: EJS on 18 March 2012

Hello all,

Question to the forum: do you have experience with DACs that use an asynchronous USB input?

Having backed up my CD collection to AIFF on a Mac and wanting to check the rips, I had some difficulty hooking up the Mac directly to the NAC282 (sound quality via the line out is atrocious, definitely not a core feature of current gen MacBooks). So went to my dealer looking for a cheap 'good-enough' solution and came home with an HRT Streamer II+. The size of a cigar cylinder and fed and powered by USB, this is the most unassuming device in my audio setup.

But it sounds quite alright (I haven't heard any alternatives so can't judge relative performance to other DACs but my CDX2 needn't fear competition).

Cheers,

EJ

I use an M2Tech Young in my office system, sounds super, async USB 24/284,

Halide Design's DAC HD is getting good reviews.

- 24/96

- and cost effective too as it's an all-in-one design so no added cables needed
