I recently bought Katie Melua's Secret Symphony CD on Amazon. A really good CD; eminently listenable. I was just about to press the Order button, when Amazon recommended Gretchen Peters new album Hello Cruel World.
I'd never heard of her but thought,"what the h***, why not." So I bought it as well. This album received a glowing write up by the BBC and was rated 5 stars by the Amazon customers - a fairly rare achievement.
It duly arrived at home and, fearing the worst, I popped it into the CDS3 for a spin. Having braced myself for a rush of mediocrity, I was very surprised. This album is absolutely captivating. It's magical & compellingly emotional. I'm hooked.
So, who is this Gretchen Peters and what else has she done that's any good?
Yours curiously, FT

You should check out her back catalogue - all superb - not quite as 'dark' as cruel world but full of great lyrics and production. Saw her live last month in London - a great night

Hi Bigball
Good advice. Last week I bought "Secret Life", another Gretchen Peters album voted 5 stars by Amazon customers. Bingo, another great album for these ears!
Looks like I'll have to keep buying them until I come across a dud.
Discoveries like this are so great; they encourage us to reach out and widen our musical tastes.
Best regards from a thoroughly chuffed FT

All Gretchens work is good. If you enjoy these also check out
1) Kathleen Edwards - 4 great albums slightly more rocky but with amazing guitar work from Jim Bruson
2) Eliza Gilkyson - similar to GP
3) Mary Gaultier - who's story's from life's rich tapestry make Joni seem like a nun
Have fun
Barry

Yes good album. Heard a track on the radio a whole back and bought the CD.
+1 for Mary Gauthier. Great music - I'd recommend Mercy Now as a good starting point.

My son has shown me a great website called "tastekid dot com" that works like the itubes genius, but much better. If you find an artist that you like and want to explore other artists of a similar style, then it's worth a try.
I have started using it together with "grooveshark dot com" and its just amazing how much new music is easy to find at the click of a mouse.
Once you've done this though, best to buy the vinyl/CD/hi-res download of course for the main music system
Happy surfing everyone, FT
