Most relaxing colour for music room........

Posted by: GeeJay on 03 April 2012

A bit of fun to start the Easter holidays.....

About to do the usual Easter holiday thing and catch up with some decorating at home.  Am looking at paint colour charts, and deciding what is best colour to paint the music room.  Have green carpet and getting a bright red sofa and deep red velvet-like curtains, however want to choose a wall colour that will help induce relaxation (and not ill health!!).  Current colour is 'new house magnolia', however am thinking of a 'burnt almond' or 'milky coffee' colour.  Know that greens can be restful as well.....

Wondered what other members went for when they came to make this choice, and recognse that  that colour is a personal taste).

Not sure that colour will affect SQ, and as April 1 is behind us, hopefully no advice about connecting HiCaps to electric wallpaper or Naim-approved green gloss!

Before anyone suggests leaving the room alone and just listening to music over Easter, there are two reasons why I need to do the painting.  First is that I fitted some additional un-switched MK wall sockets for the HiFi and need to make good the repair and repaint.  The second is that the walls are now daubed with different matchpot colours and looks weird!

Anyway, thoughts appreciated............

Electric lights out, and a candle or two or a living open fire ...

Red is a lovely warm colour for the walls, with a white ceiling.

Thus....

I always black gives a room a nice gothic feel.

Curtains drawn. Main lights out. Have green (Naim green ) up lighters behind plants on top of left  and right bass traps. Green is the most restful colour for the human eye.

Many thanks George (my name also!), Guido, Graham and Jono - some great suggestions and schemes here, and thanks for sharing your personal schemes and ideas (I like the green uplighter idea especially).

Final colour is Crown's Taupe (like a darker magnolia) as a vinyl silk, with white woodwork and ceiling.    I would have preferred a deeper coffee colour, deep red or dark green, but none had the WAF!

Oh well, better go off and do the prep work now (filler, sanding, washing walls, all that fun stuff).  Keeping focus on just getting it done so that I can get the audio back in and working.....

Funny to see the masking tape outlines of the Fraim and the B&W speakers (for easier relocation) and the spike holes in the carpet!

At least I also got to fit additional unswitched MK sockets on the wall and can get rid of the hydra-like affair that I've been using.

Thanks again all & Happy Easter!

I went through a faux paint phase.

Red walls; white ceilings. Vote number two. I'll also add a vote for candles and up lighters. Nothing sets the mood better than up lighters in front of the speakers.

The room is finally finished and looks great!  Never before has a room had so much filler, caulking and sanding to get a half decent finish!

Still reeks of paint, but I reset up the system yesterday, and it's quickly coming back 'on song' again after being off for a week.  After some research, I bought a Philips LivingColor uplighter, and can now set whatever colour takes the mood of the music - all remote controlled of course!  Listening to Led Zep 'Achilles Last Stand'' at the moment with a deep red colour - very dramatic!

My huge thanks to everyone who replied to this thread - I really got some great inspiration from you all.
