Missing Artwork

Posted by: The Meerkat on 21 April 2012

I appreciate there have been several threads on missing Artwork, and it appears that quite a few of the problems have been resolved. However, I have just ripped about 200 albums on my Unitiserve SSD and saved them on a NAS. I have about 20 albums, that have the album and track details, but no artwork. I have an iMac, with no access to a Windows based computer. Therefore, no DTC. At present I use my iMac's browser to access the Unitiserve's interface, with no way of adding album artwork manually. Does anyone know why the system has been designed to obtain artwork via Windows (DTC), but not a Mac? Is there any other way to add the missing artwork?

Anyone with a Mac & Unitiserve got the same problem?

I believe I heard rumours saying that Naim is planning on releasing a DTC for Mac users as well. No idea about the timeframe however.

Any issues regarding missing cover art when ripping a CD to the server are caused by the databases which are used. First the UnitiServe/HDX will try to find the album in the AMG database. If this does not provide a match, the FreeDB database is used. Unfortunately, the latter has no cover art...

DTC for Mac confirmed as "coming soon" by Naim at our TFOH event last Thursday.

Thanks Michel

I counted them again today, I have 40 with no artwork. Although I have to say, most of them are CD singles, that I bought quite a few years ago. Don't know if that would make a difference, or not.

Still can't get my head around it though, why you can add the artwork on the DTC and not on the browser version for Mac??

Thanks for your reply though.

PS...I ripped the Beatles 'Love' album, which only came out a couple of years ago. All the Metadata came ok, including the artwork. BUT, it has listed the artist as 'Cirque du Soleil' Not the Beatles!! How strange!!

Long time ago, I've heard that Naim wanted to incorporate the DTC functionality in either the brouwser or the app. Apparently, they've changed their minds...

MeerKat,

Database errors do exist, probably due to human error when entering the data, nothing more, nothing less. Mind you, our copy of "Love" has always ripped correctly.

The browser interface is essentially the same as the HDX's touchscreen display, and there's no facility to add artwork there either. Why, I don't know, but probably due to the need to have network access to the location where you have stored the correct artwork (i.e. on your PC or Mac) and this would probably mean that the HDX becomes even closer to a computer than it already is. There will be someone out there who knows a technical reason for this, but that person is not me.

Understand your frustration, but DTC for Mac is coming (Phil Harris said so ).

Actually Michel... I spoke to Steve Hopkins last week, and he indicated that a 'new app' was coming out very soon, which had some exciting new features on it. Could that be it??

Hi David,

That's also new to me!! Sounds great, but I have no clue on what changes shall be made to the app. Maybe some of the other forum members can comment...

Small point -- there is only one browser "version" that runs in any browser that supports Flash.  The uServe doesn't know if the browser is running on a Mac or a PC.  You can use your iPhone / iPad browser to browse to the uServe's ip address, but without Flash support, you just can't do anything.   Using a web browser on a PC doesn't allow you to edit album art either.

Let's hope the DTC for Mac will arrive soon.
