Well, I finally have a reason to ditch my pc.

I finished updating the antivirus after a few days away, did a quick scan, and turned the ol machine off. Except it wouldn't turn off. This appeared on the screen. I've tried rebooting into safe mode and into Administrator, but no, it's still there. Please don't tell me how to cure this just yet, as I'm looking at getting a MacBook Pro next weekend with my wife's new IBM discount.

Sorry your PC was infected Tony. What an ugly little virus!
A quick google reveals there is a way to...oops...sorry, never mind.
Well, even if there is a killer, please don't let it stop you from getting a Macbook Pro -- they are very nice laptops!
Good Luck!

Hi Tony
Just in case it matters to you.
New Mac Book Pros are expected soon.

Yeah, I've read that. I'm not sure there'll be any features that'll matter much to me though. I might just see how long I can last with just iPhones and iPads. There's a guy at work who runs his own pc repair business, so I might dump the tower on his desk to see what he can do with it. There's just one folder of photos that I didn't back up, so no big deal. I'm just not sure that I can wait til June for the next MacBooks now that I've been given the go ahead!

Look at the prices at jigsaw 24 in Nottingham - they do ex dem Macs as well as previous generation for a few pounds cheaper

Thanks for the link Derek. I'll have to see how much discount IBM give us. I should find out Monday, as that's when the company finally becomes a piece of IBM.
Never straight forward, is it!

Some cracking deals on the refurcb apple store as well.
15 inchers for a little over a grand.

My only experience of Apple refurbs was an iMac bought about four years ago. All was fine til I noticed a cluster of dead/stuck pixels, and then on the third day it kept rebooting itself, maybe a duff graphics card. So if that's what Apple themselves regard as a thoroughly checked unit, I'm not interested.

I did not know dealt in Macs please let us know the discount but as they have sold the Thinkpad business to Lenovo they may be more open to other platforms following on from them providing a Lotus Notes Client for the Mac

No problem, I'll update this thread as things progress. I know there are a few tenners off an iPad, so we must be looking at 5-10% discount. As you can imagine, the 'Big Blue' takeover involves a heck of a culture and benefits change for my wife, so the details have to be trawled through.

Or you could wait for windows 8.

It looks good, but with two iPads, two iPhones, and two Apple TVs littering the house, the final link needs to be put into place.
