What was your last concert you went to ?

Archie Shepp & Amina Claudine Myers - Live in Karlstorbahnhof, Heidelberg
Just returning from one of the Enjoy Jazz Festival concerts currently happening in my area. The old man and the younger lady burnt the house down ! Let's put the cover of forgiving and forgetting over the sound of the P.A. but fortunately you were able to hear both the piano and the saxes through the amplifiers, and that was a pleasure to do ! Shepp (whom I saw before, when he was much younger) still has so much energy that flows directly into his horn (and voice !!!), that it's breath taking. May he still live long and produce music, music, music !

Best regards, freundliche Grüße

Stefan

The last two concerts I went to were a day appart.

Foo Fighters (Kerrang's 25th Birthday bash) - Hyde Park (17-06-06)

Def Leppard - Hamersmith Apollo (18-06-06)

For me they were both brilliant, but Def Leppard just had the edge. !!!

The Ordinary Boys with The Automatic supporting.

Rolling Stones - A Bigger Bang, Olympiastadion Munich. A bunch of old geezers at the top of their game. Keith was off the pace for the first couple of numbers and then remote control must have taken over. Ronnie was on fire. A top afternoon / night out.

The last live show that I attended was Pierre Bensusan. I enjoy seeing him when he is on tour in my area. He tours every one or two years and I always enjoy seeing him. His shows are small and I can usually sit close and watch him play. I like being able to speak with him during the intermission.

Yesterday - Martha Argerich in Nationa Philharmonic in Warsaw. about two month ago Gidon Kremer was in Warsaw - it was GREAT concert.
Almost every weekend I go on concerts, mostly jazz, classic and opera.

Ian Brown in Brighton.

Love his albums (and being Mancunian the Stone Roses too), but bloody hell - he was awful live. Definitely to be avoided!

I went to the Oya-festival in Oslo, Norway (5 minutes away from my house). On Thursday it was e.g. !!!, The Knife, Band of Horses, Spank Rock and headlining Morrissey. Morrissey was very good, but sadly I heard that The Knife (who played at the same time as Morrissey had the best gig of the festival).

Friday it was e.g Hot Chip, The Fall, The Cramps and Black Mountain. Cramps was wild and my favourite so far. The only thing is that I would prefer to see them in a dark, smoky club.

Saturday e.g. Les Savy Fav, Yoko Ono and Beck played. Beck gave a magnificent show with marionette puppets of all the band members doing the exact same thing as the members of the band. Really funny idea, and a very good end to the festival.

The only letdown was that Amadou et Mariam didn't come due to illness, and that usually the concerts after 9.30 pm had advantages due to the darkness. It can only get cosy in the sunshine.

If you follow this link you can see full concerts from some of the bands (but only in august). Really nice.

Tonight, went to see the Rolling Stones at Twickenham. Absolutely fantastic event. The PA was pretty good, the lighting and effects were excellent and this bunch of bus-passers were on top form. Sing-along-a-Satisfaction anyone?

Not to mention the ungodly scrum to buy them! Well, I guess that's where a lot of the profit comes from. We queued and shoved our way forward to buy ours! I guess they are expensive, but I am sad enough to want to keep souvenirs of these events so paid the asking price! The program is very well produced to be fair. They could use a few more people serving though - humour was being tested last night!

We went to the V Fest in Chelmsford on the Saturday. Magic Numbers, Bloc Party, Keane, Beck and Radiohead.

Enjoyed all but Keane. Have the two albums and they are OK, but fairly boring on stage. Can't see why the lead guys is doing drugs? It's not doing a lot for him.

Beck was absolutely brilliant, as you'd expect, with a great stage show which included a puppet version of the band on stage at all times. Mind you sometimes it was more entertaining to watch the puppets! Extremely clever nonetheless.

Radiohead. Well if you are a fan if can't get any better. Absolutely incredible. Most of the groupies loved their first live playing of Creep in five years but I honestly preferred the Bends, OK Comp and later bleeps.

It didn't rain in the afternoon until the bands had finished, nice timing. Still felt good to get the old Wellingtons back on!

Wasn't prepared to pay £10 to find out who was playing, when and where though. That's just taking the piss.

How good was the concert? I saw John Taylor live many years ago in the Peter Erskine Trio and was suitably impressed.

Thanks for help. The concert was great, though I was afraid that this music could't be played on open-air concert. I was wrong. I was on his concert about 1,5 year ago. It was in jazz club in Warsaw. Tonight was very different. Just imagine - about 2-3.000 people are listenig taylor's music in the center of the old town of Warsaw.
In the oast week I saw Martha Argerich, John Taylor, Rafal Blechacz (winner of Chopin contests), Nicholas Angelich, Garrick Ohlsson, Fou Ts'ong. It was very good piano weekSmile
best regards
