Archie Shepp & Amina Claudine Myers - Live in Karlstorbahnhof, Heidelberg
Just returning from one of the Enjoy Jazz Festival concerts currently happening in my area. The old man and the younger lady burnt the house down ! Let's put the cover of forgiving and forgetting over the sound of the P.A. but fortunately you were able to hear both the piano and the saxes through the amplifiers, and that was a pleasure to do ! Shepp (whom I saw before, when he was much younger) still has so much energy that flows directly into his horn (and voice !!!), that it's breath taking. May he still live long and produce music, music, music !
Best regards, freundliche Grüße
Stefan

official announcement
Hampshire Jam 8
Musiczeit, the premier electronic music download store, are proud to announce the continuation of the legend that is the Hampshire Jam Electronic Music Festival. Created and run by uber-fan Steve Jenkins this legendary event has garnered a truly unique reputation and atmosphere. Unashamedly retro in it's outlook it has provided the only regular electronic music festival in the UK for some time and gives fans of that breed of EM exactly what they want. Steve moved abroad to work in 2008 and so last years show was the last that he was able to stage. Rather than let such a fantastic event die MusicZeit stepped in and with the full backing of Steve have now taken over the reigns of running this festival. Adhering to the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" the new organisers are sticking to the tried and tested formula that has served the Hampshire Jam so well in the past. Same venue, lights & PA and with four acts picked from the cream of electronic music this years event will again be staged at The Millennium Hall, Liphook, Hampshire.
The event will take place on Saturday October 31st and will feature performances by
Air Sculpture, Brendan Pollard, Callisto and Radio Massacre International.
If you wish to be kept informed then please sign up for the MusicZeit newsletter and click on the @ Newsletter Signup at the bottom left of the main page - no purchase necessary).
Tickets will be on sale from the MusicZeit website very soon with exclusive music tracks to download from each of the artists included in the all day ticket price of £32.99 (inc. VAT).

Madness - In-Store HMV Oxford St last week
OK, so they are probably not on everyones list of must-sees but it was a nice free surprise to spend an hour or so listening to the old (and new) stuff after browsing the racks and they treated it very professionaly.
Have a good day

Last night, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, at the Royal Albert Hall. George brought his customary energy and commitment and played his heart out for the best part of 2 hours. He and his band have been playing together for a very long time and they are a really tight ensemble.
Not a sell-out, but those who were there did their best to make sure the band could hear their appreciation. All in all, a damned good evening.

Nickelback at the O2 last night - another great fun night - they are a good rock band to watch, but also thought the support, Black Stone Cherry, were very good - and they are touring later this year.

Amadou & Mariam with David Gilmour at Union Chapel London. Very good show. Strange combination and Gilmour did seem a little uncomfortable not quite sure how to occupy himself really. No Floyd classics just David strumming along to the music from Mali with occasional tame solo.
Met up with Denis A and Mike Lacey which was great. Funniest moment from the night was when Mike shouted out "Awright Dave". Seemed to surprise him and he gave an uncomfortable reply and annoying stare back.

Lontano what's the venue like ? I've seen several TV broadcasts from there, and they always sound great , and it seems to have a good atmosphere.

The venue is superb. Very beautiful, good views and sound was excellent. Good pub across the road as well with an excellent bangers and mash.

Adrian,
Do you know if the show was being recorded for TV??
Stu
No - just some more amateur like filming for crisis charity - one camera. I did a few clips myself.

Black Stone Cherry are excellent live, first saw them supporting Def Leppard and Whitesnake at Wembley last July then again headlining at Brixton. They play Hammersmith in October. Nice guys too, always willing to chat and sign autographs.

Just got back from Lynyrd Skynyrd at Brixton (shitholelo) Aplollo. Pretty good although they do look a bit sillyat there ages. The 3 guitarists took a while to get into synch. and it rocked along. A bit too much crowd winding up for my taste, Alabama and Freebird were superb. Sound average, venue below average.

Beyonce - last night at the Liverpool Echo Arena.
Well, I'll cut to the chase - this was actually a really good show. Can't say I'm mad about all the music (there are some decent tunes in there as well though) but as a show, a spectacle and pure entertainment it was great. She belted out her songs for probably close on 2 1/2 hours and gave a really energetic performance, along with all the dancers. Stage/backdrop etc very good, as was the sound which has always been the case on previous visits. The view was pretty decent too.
As a side note, I must say how pleased I am that Liverpool now has a superb arena venue which is attracting all the biggest names, sometimes in preference to the MEN Arena where we would have previously had to travel.
All in all a very enjoyable evening.

10cc - Saturday night at the New Theater Oxford.
Concert started with Graham Gouldman doing an accoustic set of material he had written for other artists in the 60's. Brought on each of the other band members in turn.
Then into the main set playing all the old hits ending with the entire audience on their feet while playing Rubber bullets.
A trip back in time but a fantastic night out.

Just got back from Orbital's second gig in five years, for the 20th anniversary reunion, in Leeds.
EXCELLENT! Superb sound, shattered after two hours of solid dancing, and my ears are ringing a bit.
Very interesting set list, a lot of the second (Brown) album, and something from every album except 'Snivilisation' pity on that front, but 'Know Where to Run' was back in the set, and quite brutal. A lot of reworking tracks, and link sections.
Lush
Impact (The Earth is Burning)
Remind
Satan
Belfast
Chime/Chime Crime
Know Where to Run
Halcyon +On +On, with a new Berlinda Carlisle and Bon Jovi remix section
The Box
One Perfect Sunrise
encore.
Out There Somewhere, parts 1 & 2
Must get the MP3 official release wristband.

Had a great time last night at the Willkommen Collective bonanza at the Union Chapel, Islington. The Willkommen Collective features members of the bands, The Miserable Rich; Shoreline; Sons of Noel and Adrian; The Leisure Society; Laish Quartet; Kopek. Also on the bill were the magnificent Sweet Billy Pilgrim and the main reason I went to the gig. As Adrian & Mike will attest the Union Chapel is a wonderful venue and on this evidence suited to small scale performers with great voices & acoustic backing.
I don't think I have ever been so confused at a gig, as there was no MC and not knowing about the Willkommen Collective concept. I never knew who was on stage apart from Sweet Billy Pilgrim, when they played for about an hour. Nevertheless this felt like a 60's Hippy commune vibe and very relaxing. It started with a WC member leading a flock of disciples like a troubadour amongst the 'Pews' and even standing on one (He did ask permission!). Anyway a collection of WC members (10 of them) started the gig & they played a 6 - 4 formation. Empahsis was on a solid back 6 (great Stand up Bass Lines) with good vocal interplay between the backline & forwards. Sweet Billy Pilgrim played their Twice Born Men tracks very well. The singer Tim Elesenburg's vocals reverberated wonderfully around the Chapel. The final song 'There Will It End' had all 4 band members harmonising and left me awestruck. Another crew of WC (Sons of Noel and Adrian, I think) then took the stage and this time a drummer to augment vocal duties with Good songs and playing. I thought the gig was over but The Leisure Society came on to finish off with just 15 minutes available for them. They started with an excellent version of Gary Numans 'Cars' and quite strange to hear this acoustic version. At the end of the second song they got an extra 10 minutes and the gifted singer/guitarist Nick Hemming relaxed.
This was the best evening of vocals I have heard since the Brian Wilson 'Smile' gig at RFH a few years back. I'm sure this music would appeal to BigH47, especially as they are based in Brighton.
After all this, about another hours music was perfomed in the Bar upstairs by The Miserable Rich & someone else from 11PM. I didn't stay as I was unsure of the underground situation.
Here's some video's of the WC bands.
An evening I won't forget for a while and will definitely experience the Willkommen Collective again.
