What was your last concert you went to ?

Archie Shepp & Amina Claudine Myers - Live in Karlstorbahnhof, Heidelberg
Just returning from one of the Enjoy Jazz Festival concerts currently happening in my area. The old man and the younger lady burnt the house down ! Let's put the cover of forgiving and forgetting over the sound of the P.A. but fortunately you were able to hear both the piano and the saxes through the amplifiers, and that was a pleasure to do ! Shepp (whom I saw before, when he was much younger) still has so much energy that flows directly into his horn (and voice !!!), that it's breath taking. May he still live long and produce music, music, music !

Best regards, freundliche Grüße

Stefan

My thoughts exactly on JT - still wonderfully dynamic though and a such a tight band!

The New York Dolls at the O2 Academy Newcastle last night.  Nice to see the original members enjoying themselves, with some great back up from the bassist, lead guitar and drummer.

The Stranglers at Hammersmith, Great fun, and before that Porcupine Tree at the same venue, awesome.

Blackfield, 8/411 Shepherds Bush O2 (yes it is a dump, but better than the Brixton Academy)

support by The Pineapple Thief(not very good).

Steven and co were very good, sound was OK+. I think it was a bit sterile , they didn't interact much with the audience.

Blackfield are my second fav SW group after PT , not much of a No Man fan.

Set, was most of the new album and a good  selection from past albums, sorry I'm no good a remembering track titles. 8/10

Brit Floyd , Brighton Centre , 25/04.

Excellent show great lights, videos and sound. Some chaos when the venue closed the balconies to "concentrate" the crowd downstairs. I guess ticket sale were slow (ish), owing to the confusion with the still touring APFS maybe. Majority of the lower section and rear(South) stalls were full.

No fears though they did a great 2 hrs 40 mins show, 17 numbers good spread from most PF eras, no Gate , Saucerful or Piper (fine by me). A couple of small glitches, missed cues but altogether a really good time was has, recommended.

Easily as good a previous APFS gigs.

Oh yes we got a free DVD too!

Roger Waters performing The Wall in Prague, 15th April.

Great stadium show with even more theatre than back in 1980 at Earls Court!

Last night, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra with Okko Kamu. Viviane Hagner performed a moving Alban Berg Violin Concerto, very impressive playing and a generous Bach Chaconne for an encore.

First came Strauss, they managed death but transfiguration was beyond them. They got Brahms 1 together just in time for the big tune at the end. The evening belonged to Hagner and Berg.

Brit Floyd - Oxford - 7-May-11

Excellent show.  Brit Floyd was created by ex APFS players & stage production people, so, similar to the APFS in a lot of respects, but with more theatricals & some welcome extra emphasis on some numbers did make it a fest for pig piggy fans.  Nice to see so many old grey grumpies at a gig.

The stage show was spectacular,  lights especially,  not so sure about the video,  but it helped with the Pink Floyd nostalgia.

Musically as good if not better than APFS,  the extra bits made it more free & less a PF copy.

The instrumental side was outstanding, hard pressed to tell it from the original PF.

Not so convinced about some of the vocals,  but to be fair its one thing mimicking DG guitar sounds but not so easy to get the RW & DG voices.  But the outstanding vocals were from Ola who got a standing ovation for Gig in the Sky.

The sound was OK, but not as good as APFS.  But don't get me wrong, it was good, the gut wrenching bass & treble as intense as anyone wants. The percussion with the electronic augmentation was outstanding. But when I saw APFS in the same theatre last year they used 2x huge single multi driver array PA speakers; whereas Brit Floyd used a number of single PA speakers in 2 arrays but with what looked like less total cone area. It seemed to be slightly less clear, some muddle in the complex stuff & overall with a feeling of less power reserve.

Anyhow,  a great night & highly recommended.

Look up Brit Floyd on google for dates, 2011 & 2012,  including Glastonbury

Excellent report, there Mike. I agree with most although we thought the sound OK+ at Brighton.

Was it full Mike?

A great show, no worries about recommending Brit Floyd. It would interesting to see if APFS has changed.

Sound depends a lot  on what is available at the venue I think. After seeing 2 Steve Hackett gigs last year the sound was so different between the 2 venues.

Was it full Mike?

More or less,  except the top circle was empty. They moved the top circle tickets down to main circle

I was in front row circle & could not see any seats in the stalls but friends in the stalls said there was a few empty in the back corners.

Re the sound,  I agree OK+,  its just that last years memory seemed to say it was better

They "concentrated" the crowd at Brighton too. I think there was mucho confusion with the new  Brit Floyd and the fact that APFS were still going too.

Loudon Wainwright III at the Sage Gateshead last night.  Supported by his daughter Lucy.  Good show, great catalogue of witty songs that also contain some incredibly poignant lines.

The Hamsters, Shire Hall, Howden last Saturday on their Farewell Tour.

It was the Jimi/ZZTop set and excellent as usual.

Was able to speak to Slim (guitarist) and what a splendid chap he is too.

Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason O2, London

And?

Posted on: 12 May 2011 by Kevin-W

Just got back from the 02 myself - had fantastic seats and yes, Lontano is right, Fat Dave and Nick were both there. DG played a blistering "Comfy Numb" atop the wall and for the final number, "Outside The Wall" Dave played Mandolin and Nick tambourine. Rog was very effusive about the whole thing and it bought a tear to my eye I can tell you.
