What was your last concert you went to ?
Posted by: sjust on 18 October 2004
Just returning from one of the Enjoy Jazz Festival concerts currently happening in my area. The old man and the younger lady burnt the house down ! Let's put the cover of forgiving and forgetting over the sound of the P.A. but fortunately you were able to hear both the piano and the saxes through the amplifiers, and that was a pleasure to do ! Shepp (whom I saw before, when he was much younger) still has so much energy that flows directly into his horn (and voice !!!), that it's breath taking. May he still live long and produce music, music, music !
Best regards, freundliche Grüße
Stefan
just off to see Mr Dylan and Mr Knopfler at what used to be the Hammersmith Odeon!
VSO doing "Bugs Bunny at the Symphony". Highly entertaining. We took our 8 year-old and a friend of his. They both enjoyed it.
Christy Moore & Declan Sinnott Last Night at the Waterfront Hall Belfast.
Excellent evenings entertainment, Declan Sinnott is a class act!
...and Christy Moore isn't????
Should have added " As well" after class act!
KRAFTWERK 3D live in munich. really spectacular
Wow! Dylan at Hammersmith Apollo last night (Mon) was amazing! I've never seen/heard him so animated and the band was just on fire. Highlight for me was a breathtaking "Forgetful Heart". It was uch a relief after years of seeing crap or mediocre Dylan to see ace Dylan - best I've seen him since 1995 at Brixton...
However I made the terrible mistake of allowing myself to be talked into going to see old Knobhead, the support act. How this graceless oaf managed to get anywhere is utterly beyond me. Self-satisfied beige porridge of "music" topped off with a passionless drone of a voice and those terrible "tasteful" guitar "licks". Awful, just awful (it bought back terrible memories of the 1980s and Dire Straits) and the bar was a blessed relief after 10 minutes.
Kevin, I was going to wholeheartedly agree with you. Dylan was on very special form last night, monday. Did you do Brixton too the last time, 2006?. As one paper put it this morning he 'gargled' his way through the songs. But what a gargle! Mind you my friend and I had a game of which song was being played from the snatches of the gargle! I didn't recognise 'All along the watchtower'!
Mr K isn't for me either but huge numbers of the audience thought he was pretty wonderful! Why we might debate but i can only assume that he was on form too from the adoring shouts. I liked his 'Song for Sonny Liston' although I did yearn for 'Eastbound Train' tho'.
Yeah Dylan last night, Monday, at the Hammersmith Apollo was just absolutely it!
The band is just so tight and rock so well with Bob!
I saw them earlier in this tour at Manchester when I was really delighted and impressed that he was really into his music and moving around the stage and actualy spoke to the audience by introducing the band!...but Hammersmith was even better!
And being a big fan and going to his concerts since the 70's Hammersmith was one of the best yet!
Brixton 2006 was also damn good especialy as I was stood at the front just in front of his Bobness...and he actualy smiled (not at me mind you) when the audience reacted with a large cheer to Million Dollar Bash!
But last night with Leopard Skin Pill Box Hat, Highway 61, Desolation Row, All Along the Watchtower, Don't Think Twice It's All Right, Like A Rolling Stone...it was just uplifting and exciting, he was on great form!
A wonderful night, thanks Bob!
Richard
p.s. I thought Mark Knopfler was better at Manchester mind you but last night he played 4 songs with Dylan and I felt that Bob and Mark interacted well (Bob always in charge as you would expect!)...shame non of the songs were from Infidels.
Saw Loch Lomond last night at The Social in London. Brilliant gig. Only three members of the band played but they were superb. The full band with all seven members are due back early next year which should be even better. Very friendly charming folk that hail from Portland, Oregon. Check them out on You Tube.

A great night's entertainment.
The Melvins at the Electric Ballroom a couple of weeks ago.
A bit bothered when we arrived to see only one drum kit on stage. A scheduling mess up meant Coady Willis had to miss the show. This seemed to inspire Dale Crover to produce an absolutely epic noise. Very very loud - old style PA like a small bungalow each side of the stage - much more impressive than the new-fangled skinny ones dangling from the ceiling! Anyway, the band were as good as I've ever seen them. Magnificent!
Roll on ATP in May, Melvins and Mogwai confirmed, all we need now is Melt Banana for my ultimate line up...
Off topic but just looked up The Fall tomorrow night - thought they were at O2 Islington, turns out it's Indigo at the blasted O2. Will probably still go - even at their worst you always get at least 10 minutes of blinding brilliance.
Flicking through recent posts cussing the fact that I didn't realise Alison Krauss was playing earlier in the month.
My most recent concert was Wilco playing the Roundhouse at the end of October - fantastic band but why oh why did they have the volume up to 12 on the dial? Notwithstanding it was a superb gig from a band at their peak.

Jo Bonamassa at the Orpheum, Vancouver last night. 2nd row centre seats for Mrs Winky and me. Great show. Joe was humble. engaging, entertaining and talented. Great band, too.

How about the last one I didn't go to - i.e. Lindsay Buckingham at Leeds the other Sunday, cos he cancelled the tour I'll have to make do with the album and Blu Ray

Start a thread,
It might make some interesting reading.
One of my big let downs in the 70s was the Joni Mitchell concert in London that got cancelled because she split up with her boyfriend at the time.
Not ill health,
What ever happened to the show must go on?
I had those tickets for months.

...and Jools Holland last night in York...a fine show!
- Ruby turner was stunning;
- Nice spot from Rico;
- also guest appearance from Shaun Ryder on sax!
- and Sandie Shaw was really good she was like a breath of spring air from the 60's...fab!
They were also selling Jool's latest double LP on vinyl..signed copy at £15...a bargin!
All in all a great show,
Richard

I'll be looking at seeing her again on her tour next year.
