What was your last concert you went to ?
Posted by: sjust on 18 October 2004
Just returning from one of the Enjoy Jazz Festival concerts currently happening in my area. The old man and the younger lady burnt the house down ! Let's put the cover of forgiving and forgetting over the sound of the P.A. but fortunately you were able to hear both the piano and the saxes through the amplifiers, and that was a pleasure to do ! Shepp (whom I saw before, when he was much younger) still has so much energy that flows directly into his horn (and voice !!!), that it's breath taking. May he still live long and produce music, music, music !
Best regards, freundliche Grüße
Stefan
Yes & I did post but pulled it as 'that' post appeared right below it and totally belittled what I had written.
Simply can't be a***d to spend twenty mins writing it all again, suffice to say - I would go again.
Sound was perfect from down near the front. & I mean perfect.
Hi Steve2701
What was "that" post and how did it belittle what you had written?
Just came back from Haitink/CSO Beethoven Missa Solemnis concert.
I was worried the frail maestro wasn't gonna make it to the end of the program. :x
What a powerful music hearing it live.
What a beautiful Photo, kuma ! Was it taken during the concert ?
cheers
Stefan
Stefan!
haha no.
No camera or recording device allowed in the concert hall.
But I was sitting much closer to the maestro than this camera.
Any good concert in your neck of the woods?
It would be cool to go hear the Missa Solemnis in one of those old European concert hall.
Dear Kuma,
Sorry to interrupt, but it goes well in a Cathedral as well!
ATB from George
I went to see the English Travelling Opera production of Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring last night. I would have enjoyed it more if the seats hadn't been so uncomfortable. Why is that nobody ever designs seating to accomodate anyone over 6ft tall?? At 3 hours, it was about an hour too long for me.
SydArthur at Wilmington Arms 1st Nov.
Nice!!

Hi Premmy,
Small world, I was standing just to the left of the DJ (who earlier played 'Book Of Saturday' from Larks Tongues on the Polydor label, he thought he bought it in europe). The band were pretty good, music a bit samey, but I was impressed with the drummer.
It was good that the band was playing, otherwise I might have been accused of eavesdropping 50 conversations .

What can i say absolutely fantastic. Her voice was absolutely fantastic. She sang songs from her early albums and hit the notes, not bad for 61.(note her voice was so much better than when i saw her a few years ago atsame venue) Her newer stuff which is much heavier and rocky was superb and she play guitar so bloody good. She really engaged with the audience.
Before that concert was Madonna at Murryfield. THE BIGGEST waste of my moneyever.Absolute tat and well past her sell bydate. She needs to embrace her age like joan not try and act like a bloody 20 year old. ...and fail miserably.
Hi Denis, I was down near the front. Really enjoyed it. Missed book of Saturdays probably still next door in the main pub.
Yeah it was noisy can't believe people go to a gig then talk all the way through may just as well stay in pub next door!!
Me and a few friends are going to see The Staves after your recommendation so might catch you there in a couple of weeks. I'll wear a Ramones T-shirt so maybe you will spot me.
Really like the Sharon Van Etten album also but unfortunately unable to make any of her local gigs.
Prem.
Hi Prem,
Near the front was probably the best spot, glad you enjoyed the gig.
I'll look out for your t-shirt at The Staves gig, which I promise you will take your breath away. I spoke to Ethan Johns on Monday night @ his gig, and he told me how he and his dad came across the band within a couple days of each other and got together to produce them. BTW Ethan is touring next year and the dates & samples are here - http://store.ethanjohns.com/Store/DisplayItems.html
Sharon had to re-arrange her October gig @ Shepherds Bush, so maybe you could make the 3 Dec?

I was at the John Wilson concert in Cardiff last evening and boy was it superb! Simply stunning!
Jack White at Ally Pally.
A mixture of material from Blunderbuss, plus White's peeerless back catalogue of White Stripes, Raconteurs and Dead Weather songs, enlivened by a brilliant back-up band of drums, bass (stand-up and electric), keyboards, guitar, mandolin an violin.
Highlight was a mega-heavy, taken-at-a-snail's pace medley of "Baby Please Don't Go" and "Ball and Biscuit."
Simply astonishing - easily my best gig of the year - and indeed for many a year.

Dylan and Knopfler at Santa Barbara County Bowl, outdoors, cool, a bit misty. Great fun, Dylan's band was the best, tho I wanted a few songs downscaled a bit. Half way thru some songs I'd realize what it was. Still seeing Dylan finally was wonderful.
I could have gone to the Hollywood Bowl but he'd have been 1 inch tall with me in the back.
Sunday 11 November, RFH Lucinda Williams and band both excellent, sound good also.
Rolling Stones at Trabendo.
Fantastic Show
Niamh Kavanagh And her Band The Illegals Excellent musicians & Singers at our local Arts Centre.
Covers of Eagles & Fleetwood Mac numbers, . A great evenings entertainment.
Steve Vai,two days ago at Alcatraz,Milan,Italy.Delightful artist.3 hours show...
Half Man Half Biscuit, The Academy Newcastle. Thought it was time to see them live. Great show and some great humour. Enjoyed it

I'll probably be slated for this, because it wasn't exactly me going to a concert - it was me going with a pal to watch the Led Zep Celebration Day concert movie in Islington.
The reason I decided to post this is that it's the best show I've seen in many a long time and I came away from it with the same uplifting buzz that a tip top concert gives you. Only down side was imagining how much better it might have been had I got my hands on one of the Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory golden tickets to get into O2 which I thought was around 2010 - quite a surprise to realise it was 2007! If you get a chance to see it in the cinema, and you have any inkling of a liking of Led Zep, don't miss out!

+ 1 billion. I've seen it twice now and it really is brilliant (apart from two below-par songs: SIBLY and Stairway to Heaven).
The DVD will be great but it's no substitute for seeing it at the pictures.
Sunday 18th November, The Hawth ,Crawley , the the superb Kate Rusby and band.
Last night:
Bart,
You saw 'alf The 'ho? C'mon, ya gotta give us more than a photo. Details?
