Wireless Routers

Posted by: Lontano on 26 December 2010

I have been getting very frustrated with our BT Homehub and have decided that it now no longer going to play a part in web activity in our household.

So today I went and bought a Netgear DGND3300 Rangemax Dual Band Wireless N router - reading all the stuff on the box it is selling itself as higher end, good for multi users, gaming and Hd streaming. Set it up and initially thought wow, this is great. No longer am I getting lost connections on the macbook pro and the imacs in the household all love it. A much better and faster wireless N connection - very happy.

What is disappointing is the G connection on a different band. Not as powerful as we were used to, so I am finding my iphone has a weak signal in some parts of the house. The PS3 has had a few hiccups as well and it is fairly close to the new router - need to do more stress testing in the morning.

So I need to decide if this is a keeper. I want to look at strong alternatives.

Do you have any new to market, powerful, can handle lots of traffic ADSL Modem/Routers for BT connection to recommend?

Thanks

Draytek 2820

Nothing is cheap I am afraid.

Have you checked what bands are in use in your area using istumbler or similar, perhaps you are getting interference?

I use a DLink DIR-855. Does what it says on the box with nary a hiccup.

Our internet speed is not the best but this netgear router has improved speed of the web in the house, so the homehub was a block. So a new router might help you.

I am still deciding whether to keep the Neatgear or not as the 802.11G network range is not so good and the playstation was dropping signal as a result. Went to Pc world today but they did not have any Draytek.
