NAS

Currently, for my portable computer based system, I'm using a Macbook Pro with Pure Music or Amarra to play back hi-res files. I've got all of these files backed up on a Lacie Little Big Quadra 1TB drive. If I copy them to another drive (same type), can I hook it up to the HDX as a NAS?

Well no as a NAS stands for Network Attached Storage, i.e. the drive connects to your router with ethernet. You are proposing to connect the drive to the hdx directly in which case it will be a standard drive. As to whether the HDX will see it I have no idea, presumably if its formatted in Fat32 then perhaps so.

As above. If plonk it on the network via a network cable the HDX will see it when it scans the network and play the files if you request it to. If set up as a share the HDX will allow you to convert it to a music store to which you can rip if required. Or you can USB it to the HDX like a big stick.

His current drive is not a NAS so he won't be connecting it to the network. Docmark get a NAS drive, stick it on your router, then copy files to it from your drive.

The HDX will then see it.
