PS3 vs Apple TV?

We were thinking of getting an Apple TV2 but found out that BBC iPlayer can't be re-streamed to the main TV.
Lontano informs me that a PS3 can do this.
Main question though is how good Blue ray player is it? Also apart from game playing can it do more?

Any versions to avoid or specifically choose?

I use my PS3 for anything but gaming,great blue ray player,great for BBC iplayer,not much cop as a cd player,use the optical out into Dac.

If you are not bothered by the gaming, I think a Sony Blu ray 99 quid will do what you want.

Is the Sony able to "do" iPlayer? We keep looking at the 370.

I looked at some of these hacks and region free codes for things , my brain just shut down (an easy task BTW).

PS3 is a fantastic blu-ray player, but is a bit much if all you want to do is play blu-rays or watch IPTV. I have both an ATV and a PS3 but I am disappointed with the ATV. PS3 also does Netflix and has its own video store with a better selection than what is available to the new ATV (it can only play a subset of iTunes content unless purchased on your computer first). I'm Stateside so I can't comment on iPlayer quality.
