I love Thick as a Brick too. I was 18 when it was released and it seemed really original to me then. It's still full of good tunes.
Aqualung to a lesser extent but don't have much time for anything else.

Aqualung followed by Stand-Up - though I like most of their early output including Thick As Brick.

My favourite Tull track is on Benefit

I'll never forget seeing them playing Living in the Past on Top of the Pops. I thought my father was going to have a heart attack at having degenerates like that on his 17 inch Baird TV, in his living room. Hilarious stuff.

Live Bursting Out.

Stand Up.

'Brick, Minstrel and Aqualung bubbling below. Of the newer albums I have a soft spot for Stormwatch.

Favourite track probably 'Skating Away On The Thin Ice Of A New Day'.

Songs from the Wood, followed by

Heavy Horses
Stand Up
Minstrel in the Gallery

I was 16 Tom and we had been playing Stand Up, Living In The past and especially Aqualung in the common room at school to wear out the records! TAAB was wonderful and remains one of my 5 top records (along with Trilogy...I have ducked!) and I am with you Bruce, 'Skating away......' is my favourite track.

I recently got hold of an original MFSL copy of TAAB to replace my newspaper copy which was obviously beginning to show its age!! I am very lucky.

Tough call. Benefit. Closely followed by Warchild, Aqualung, Stand Up, Brick in no particular order. I'm also very partial to Under Wraps because it's a bit different (for Tull), of its time and tongue in cheek. TBH I could listen to practically anything from Tull but like most progish bands, combined with my age, I tend to settle more in the early to mid years.

Easy call for me HarryK ... 'This Was'

I bought it when it came out and have a few CD versions. I love it to this day. Whether it's quality or nostalgia I'm not sure but it is my favourite

Has Ian Anderson finally stopped ringing the JT brand to death and dropped from view? The last few albums have been dire, embarrassing even. Even my loyalty ( I own the lot even if I listen rarely these days) would be seriously tested if he kept going at that level!

Second that.

Stand Up, then Benefit (sadly underrated I think), then Aqualung

I prefer the early albums.

I don't underrate Benefit at all!

I quite like everything up to Heavy Horses with the dishonourable exceptions of "Too Old To Rock'n'Roll" and *Cough* "A Passion Play"

Spooky timing Terry,

Last evening I greatly enjoyed 'Songs from the Wood' and 'Thick as a Brick', though top spot for me has to go to 'Aqualung'.

I wonder what the real Jethro Tull would make of the minstrels in the gallery?

John.

Minstrel in the Gallery followed by Songs from the Wood and Aqualung. I also think that A Passion Play is a great album.

For reasons I don't really understand, I sort of abandoned them after Aqualung (which I really liked, though being broke probably didn't help), and re-visited their stuff at a later date.

I bought Passion Play without having a clue what it was like, but I'd liked Heavy Horses, Minstrel, Broadsword, Songs From The Wood so what was there to worry about?

My goodness, what on earth possessed them/him? It's loose stool water of the lowest grade. Argh!

And what really gets me about Benefit is that, despite not quite having the top tunes of the albums either side, it does have great atmosphere. All wistful like.

broadaword & the beast, heavy horses, live bursting out, crest of a knave & rock island

Not sure if I could pick a favourite, "Bursting Out" is possibly my all-time fave live album. Otherwise "Benefit", "Aqualung" and "Songs from The Wood" are all excellent.
They are still great as a live act BTW....

I recall being intensely disappointed with the overall sound of Bursting Out when it was released. The concert sound when I saw them on the Heavy Horses tour was superb, make no mistake, and B.O. had a dry, uninvolving kind of sound, which was a big let-down as I was expecting it to sound 'like the concert', shall we say.....

The difference in sound terms between the consecutive albums Benefit and Stand Up was quite marked, too.

Always thought Benefit had a very dark, enclosed sound - whereas Stand Up is very open.
