File access to an HDX/NS01

Posted by: Massimo Bertola on 09 January 2011

Probably a question that could be answered by some patient reading, but if I want to store downloaded files onto HDX or NS01, must I pass through a PC or can the unit connect directly to the Internet?

Thanks,
Massimo

I'm not sure you can.

AFAIK the HDX has on its hard disk only a Music store which is closed and only meant for its own rips.
Downloaded files can be stored on an external computer and accessed via a Network Share to be defined on the HDX. Both machines must be connected to the same network for both devices to see eachother.

So this means that not only you don't download on an HDX (or NS01) but you don't actually save on it and you only access files via your HDX (or NS01)?

Am I right too?

SPW - Music stores *MUST NOT* be manually modified - doing this can really mess up your unit!

how do i undo what i have done without messing up my hdx? which is working perfectly at the moment.

the mess up, does that refere to internal store or external store, currently my hdx gives me to option to lock the external store for hdx use only?

also if the naim lable downloads come with amg info, is there a way to import this? that is the reason why i resorted to the import method i was using was to make the info available.

thanks

The easy answer is that you can't - I can manually go through the entire structure myself pulling off all the non-ripped stuff and then rebuilding the servers database but that could take a long time.

We do say in the manual that the music stores must not be modified by anything other than the server itself...

if i know the albums i have imported, would it be better to transfer them to a external store, or delete them completly, (and add to an external store from my back up)

or should i leave as is as it is working fine ( about 6 albums from the naim website all with amg files)

thanks
