sandy denny

Someone (I think ROTF) recently posted on Sandy Denny and Strawbs singing Who knows where the time goes. So, I have been doing some research on her, and I am wondering which LP that she has been involved with people who know better than me would recommend (Sandy Denny/Strawbs/Fotheringay/Fairport Convention?

Thanks for your thoughts

This is a beautiful version - can anyone (rotf) tell me what version this is?

My guess is it is from Sandy's John Peel session recorded in early September 1973.

Excellent - I have it on CD and vinyl and it is one of the great albums.

The new remaster of Sandy and the Strawbs is far superior to the original, seek it out, you will be pleased.
As much as I adore her above most others, her solo albums were not indicative of her talent. In a recent interview on NPR, Richard Thompson surprised me and said as much.
Another bigger surprise in the same interview, Linda Thompson made a few slightly off color remarks on Sandy's personal life.
Still, doesn't take away from a voice that only comes once in a great while. None of the above mentioned cover singers, while good in their own way, even come close.

Not keen on Shirley Bassey, Annie Lennox or Grace Jones TBH.
The first three are my favourite singers
Mary Chapin Carpenter is probably my favourite songwriter
Kareine Polwart is my favourite singer songwriter
Kate Rusby is simply wonderful
Basia Bulat just stunned me with debut elpee being so original
I forgot to include Janis for which I sincerely apologise.

However, quite a few to listen to while waiting for Sandy's 19 CD set to arrive (delayed again).

Hope you enjoy them.

I was lucky enough to have seen this gig:

...so I should recommend it, though I haven't heard this recording.

Me neither, and I should have recognised her contribution especially as I have an elpee by Solas called Sunny Spells and Scattered Showers, which I shall play again right away.

I have Solas self titled and Edge of Silence.

Sandy's box set has arrived at last - not played it yet, but it looks great.

Mine arrived earlier as well.

Really first class set and you certainly get your monies worth.

Looks like its going to be a 'Sandy' listening week.

Yes - that was a simple question to start the new year Smile
