Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Brilliant news, Legard's out Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

no place for Legard in the BBC F1 commentary set-up

Unfortunately, with the extremely powerful braking that F1 cars have now, if the racing was left 'pure' we would end up with fastest car/driver on pole, first into first corner, first to flag. And the cars behind would be in order of car/driver performance with little overtaking. The new rules have made results a little random for now, but once the strategists have got their heads around the details it'll all settle down. Overall though, the top drivers and teams are at the top. Tony

Is that Murdoch is see?

Certainly looks like a version of his name!

17 years ago today we lost Ayrton Senna, Roland Ratzenburger the day before.

Personally my world has not been the same.

Go and see Senna the Movie to see what we lost.

Nice reminder Howard.

What annoys me is that I only realised what a different level Senna played on when I saw the 1993 European GP at Donington. I wasted the previous years disliking him for no reason!

A truly exceptional talent, and I still get a little emotional whenever I see him on the goggle box.

I've just been informed that Paddy Power have paid out on bets for Vettel to win the 2011 drivers' championship. So, all done and dusted?

Yay! I scored my invite again this year.

One of my customers' offices is exactly opposite Rascasse.

This is the view:

You can go off some people, you know.....

Seriously, enjoy it. I'll take solace from the fact that you'll be "working" for part of the build up.

Rod,

I hope you had time to take some pictures during the race today?

Loads of good stuff going on under you.

One of the best races their for many many years IMO.

With all the millions that he earns each year, might Louis Hamilton invest in a brain? His comments after the GP yesterday were beneath contempt.

Posted on: 31 May 2011 by Harry

Heat of the moment. Very silly and I'm sure a grovelling apology will be issued.

After he lied to the stewards in Adeliade a couple of years back, he likened himself to a convict serving time, which I thought particularly adolesent. It now appears more growing up is required - and the sooner the better. Good though he is, I can't see him being excused indefenitely. These highly skilled drivers are complex characters with egos and self belief bigger than most people can imagine - an essential requirement IMO. But playing the race card is base and dumb. I hope he either gains some fast wisdom or has it hammered into him.

Hamilton's frustration levels seem to have been going in the wrong direction for some time.

I understand it was not a good day for him in Q3 after more or less dominating Q1 & Q2.  The cards where not good to him & I understand he must have been really p****d off with 2.26 secs left to nail a time.  Then getting moved back must have seemed it was rubbing salt in the wound.

But even with the qualifying frustration, plus his on the limit raw racing style that is probably the most entertaining of any driver when he has to do it;  his driving incidents at Monaco where (IMO) very questionable.  In both cases he was trying to muscle his car into an inside corner that required the other car to give way or hit him.  He needed to be under investigation for both.

The post race comments just showed he is not in a good place.   I am not sure but I get the hints that its becoming personal with one maybe two other drivers.   Also I have seen the racist stuff around him first hand,  some counties especially are very much that way & something must rub off.

He needs to get his head in order or he will end up wound up like Alonso was when he was "racing" against Hamilton.

From my POV it breaks down into:

Ability - nail bitingly thrilling and available in bucket loads.

Racecraft - scitchophrenic and commonly questionable.

Mindset - he could, as you say Mike, turn out to be his own worst enemy.

A line has been drawn under last Sunday's behaviour. I'm pleased that everyone talked it out and shook hands. I think there's a safe dangling over Lewis' now and it's up to him not to pull the release.

gap in the fence!

Was a great day, and an interesting race for once!

Posted on: 31 May 2011 by BigH47

For once ? Where you been this year?

Posted on: 31 May 2011 by rodwsmith

I mean an interesting Monaco race...

Although we had to watch most of the interesting bits on the TV right enough.

Posted on: 31 May 2011 by graham55

I suspect that Vettel has made a Faustian pact. In any event, he had the luck of the Devil at Monaco!

Posted on: 31 May 2011 by BigH47

For once I'll agree with you Graham.

This was one of the best Monaco races in years, shame about the last safety stop, would have liked to see if Vettel would have held the lead running on no tires at all.

As far as Hamilton is concerned, nothing new, bit of a cry baby.
Posted on: 31 May 2011 by rodwsmith
Indeed. Two Red Bulls crash, causing a red flag restart and allowing a third Red Bull to change tyres and refuel without an otherwise very overdue pit stop and then win the race. As Homer Simpson might say 'how convenient'...everyone loves a conspiracy.

For the sake of the sport it would be a poor result if the driver's, or to a lesser extent the constructor's, championship were to be decided with many races to go. Still, Button started almost as well last year, and there hasn't been very much rain so far.

Refuel?

For all F1 fans on the forum, "Senna - The movie" is a must see.

Totally addictive from beginning to end. A proper tribute to the great man!
