Oh if only Munch were here he'd have posted first. Still, it keeps Mick P away whichever way it cones up.

I'm just astonished that anyone would think that he had anything of any musical merit at all. One turgid pop hit a million years ago, and then nicht.

RIP Teena, 54 is just too young to die.

Probably the same one I was thinking of.
Kelly Marie ....
Of one hit wonder "Feels Like I'm in Love" fame.

I was thinking of Tina Marie, per the OP.
So there are two people who died on Sunday?
1) "Tina Marie", a one hit wonder and who is apparently a chap, as per your post a few up where you referred to Tina as a "he".
2) And "Teena Marie", a well respected, but perhaps under-appreciated female R&B singer, to whom I was referring.
Seems a hell of a coincidence.

The OP - as I said above - specified Tina Marie.
I'm not in the habit of checking the background to posts, and usually take them at face value.
So, I took it at face value and wondered why it was worthy of mention. The word "he" was ( rather clearly, given Tina is usually a female name ) a typo, sorry if that confused you.
You knew the real story, well done you.

- 6 platinum R&B albums
- groundbreaking career as white artist in predominantly black genre
- received 2008 R&B Pioneer award from R&B Foundation (along with Chaka Khan, Bill Withers, Kool & the Gang, Donny Hathaway...)
- 4 Grammy nominations
- protege of Rick James; mentor to Lenny Kravitz
- talented performer, producer, writer, and arranger
Dunno, seems worth a mention to me.

Tina Marie - per the OP - just had one hit in the 70s.
She did not have - to the best of my knowledge
- any platinum R&B albums
- a groundbreaking career as white artist in predominantly black genre
- a 2008 R&B Pioneer award from R&B Foundation (along with Chaka Khan, Bill Withers, Kool & the Gang, Donny Hathaway...)
- Any Grammy nominations
- fame as a protege of Rick James; mentor to Lenny Kravitz
- talent as a performer, producer, writer, or arranger
Not worthy of mention, IMO.
Teena Marie - not the subject of the OP - another matter.

Ah, pedantry. Got it. Excellent contribution.

Not really; more a case of actually reading the OP. My bad.
Next time I read an Obit I'll doubt it, ask if the spelling is correct and if I spot a typo - "he" for "she" for example, I'll have a little dig.
Sorry, again.
Hope this has not upset you too much.

It's a shame hardly anybody knows anything about teena marie. A superb soul/funk artist from the early eighties who made some killer albums for Motown and then Epic. Maybe not so surprising when most people here don't seem to like this sort of music,

Not upset. I cut the OP some slack on the typo (Tina Vs Teena). You didn't, so I thought it fair game to respond to your pedantry with a little of my own. That's all. No need to get upset. Just a forum, after all.

You've assumed that I was being pedantic, and you've assumed incorrectly.
I've only said this five times now - I had not herd of Teena Marie before this rather dull series of posts; the people that have heard of her seem to be based in North America.
I'd not heard of her; I had heard of Tina Marie, hence my puzzlement over the "RIP" comment.
No pedantry at all on my part, just a lack of knowledge of somebody that, as Sister E quite rightly puts it, "hardly anybody knows anything about".

But Teena Marie IS the subject of the original post. As I have said before, the OP made a typo.

I think you've misunderstood me. I was expressing surprise that very few people here seem to have heard of her. She did not sell truckloads of records in the UK but she was a highly successful soul artist in the U.S for a number of years. The point I was trying to make is that, regretfully, few people here seem to be interested in this genre of music. If more people were, many more would have heard of Teena Marie.

And clearly can't spell anyway ('past away').

No; the subject is quite clearly Tina Marie. That is what was said, that is what I read - because that is what was said.
Later it turns out to be a comment about somebody most people have not heard of ( except in North America. )
Its hardly my fault if someone gives incomplete / wrong information about a not very famous person, is it?

The subject of the OP - but this is only based on what is there - is Tina Marie.

Except that it isn't. The OP was clearly referring to someone who died recently. That is, Teena Marie.
