External touch screen for UnitiServe?
Posted by: aysil on 27 December 2010
I prefer the external display interface for UnitiServe and found this touchscreen:
The size just fits neatly on top of the UnitiServe. Does anyone have other suggestions for external touch-screeen?
It's a pity that I can not control UnitiServe and UnitiQute from the same interface. They are made to complement each other, but they can not even be controlled from the same remote control. I am not a fan of remotes and prefer to control directly from the device: It would be nice to control both from the same external touchscreen.

If I connect the Serve to a 40 inch tv monitor via VGA, is there anyway to control it with a handheld remote?

and that makes it better? - how about WINE - does anyone use WINE to access DTC?

Not better, but possible.
But if that's not enough for you!

Yes - the NARCOM6 remote supplied as standard with the HDX (or available for order from your retailer) will work just fine.

@David - do you know of anyone using Crossover Mac to access Naim Desktop Client?

The Naim Desktop Client will not work with WINE–on the Mac, I use VMware Fusion with an installed Windows OS image for best results.

OK, so I used a S-video cable and connected it to my tv. I can see the Serve interface, awesome! I think the only thing I need to do is purchase the Naim remote NARCOM6 or a wireless usb keyboard and I should be all set.
*Not confident a wireless keyboard will work. Most likely will go with Naim remote for ease of use, etc even if the keyboard does work.
PS. David Dever - Will the NARCOM6 control the volume on the Qute?

You may also use a universal remote with the appropriate RC5 codes, to control both units. NARCOM6 codesets do not control the Uniti family and vice versa.

David,
What are the appropriate RC5 codes?

Don't have to use an iTouch or a pc and can see/control it from the distance to my chair. For me, just seems easier to use or at least provides another option. Personally If I could control my Qute the same way, that would be great. Often I read where user's state the remote can be somewhat useless as they cannot see the interface of the product (Qute/Uniti, etc) from any distance. This option would solve that issue.

What I would love to see (although not entirely out of the question) is an AppleTV mk2 app for control of the Uniti family. This would alleviate the requirement for a noisy video out on the rear panel of the units while still providing large-format on-screen control.

David, I see the NARCOM4 on your price list. Is the NARCOM6 the same price only a newer unit? If not, what is the retail price? I'll be contacting Gene on Monday.

Same price.

I found out that the touch-screen I suggested at the beginning of this thread is not suitable for use with UnitiServe: Naim technical support told me "UnitiServe can be connected to only a limited number of touch-screens which are in its internal driver database." This information should have been in the user manual. Don't you think so?

That interface for the Apple TV is a sweet one. I can see a Naim app there, right along side the Netflix one. Would THAT ever be a coup.

Can someone from technical support post a list of the touchscreens that will work with the UnitiServe.quote:Originally posted by aysil:

Can someone from Naim please provide the approved list?
Thank you!

I just connected (successfully) a FeelWorld FW819AHT 8" 6x19 touch display. After the display calibration it works well and also has an HDMI as well as the VGA input.
I got it off of eBay $160. The seller has a website, www.m2cmart.com.
The direct link is: http://www.m2cmart.com/FEELWOR...W819AHT_p369445.html
Pretty cool as it even has a stand/mount that seems to work well enough.
