Gerry Rafferty RIP

Just seen reports that Gerry Rafferty has died, aged 63. Not on BBC site yet but all over the internet. A sad start to the year.

Oh dear, does that mean that the airwaves will be swamped with the truly dreadful 'Baker Street'?

Haven't seen the reports, so can't comment on its truth. RIP. Incidentally, I actually like the sax solo on Baker Street. To each his own, I suppose.

Baker Street is an excellent song as is the elpee it comes from alomg with the Stealers Wheel output - it is yet more sad news.

I like Stuck in the Middle With You much more than Baker Street.

Sadly, Quentin Tarantino has made SITMWY somewhat unlistenable.

Can I Have My Money Back is a great album (1971), and I've enjoyed the rather dark sounding CD Another World (2000) especially the title track - very moody.
Had Baker Street not been the massive success it has, we'd all be calling it a lost masterpiece...

Very sad indeed, he produced some classic music in his lifetime and died too young. RIP.

The demon drink indeed.

The day I biked miles into town to go and buy Baker Street is still fresh in my memory. I was so excited getting it out of the sleeve and putting it on the turntable. I recall I also bought two other albums that day; Fleetwood Mac and Fleetwood Mac Rumours, if only to ensure that the LP sleeves wouldn't get too crushed in the rucksack. I still have them (although they are pretty much worn out now) along with myriad replacement copies bought over the years. Strangely enough I was listening to Snakes and Ladders only a couple of evenings ago and wondered then what Mr Rafferty was up to these days..

Very sad to hear of his death.

Get it Right Next Time, Whatever's Written In Your Heart, Stealin' Time, City To City, and Right Down The Line are my favourites, and always in rotation. It's weird when you hear in his lyric's things like "another bottle gone", it always makes me think about how he loved his drink but he had such a battle with it. I'm not saying the following just because he died, but he was one of the most tuneful artists I've ever listened to. I think he was an amazingly gifted songwriter and composer, a real 'craftsman'. May he RIP.

My favorite Rafferty song is "A change of heart" from the album "Sleepwalking".

RIP.

I was so put off GR by continuous playing of Baker Street on the radio, I never bothered to listened to any more of his stuff.

Still sad when anyone goes RIP Gerry.
