What Do I Need?

Posted by: Lloydy on 29 December 2010

The time had come to retire much beloved Loewe Aconda CRT TV. So it was out with the old in with the new (Sony).
My TV is at one end of my living room, my audio at the other. I connected my Loewe from it's audio out phono sockets with a custom lead, that my dealer made for me many years ago, to my 52, 135's. All sounded pretty good and was ready to hook the new TV up in a similar manner only to find it only has an optical audio out Confused
WHAT DO I NEED?
I'm sure there are a 100 threads on this subject already? Can somebody point me in the right direction please?

It's a bit complex for my setup but I run a combination of direct analogue and digital.

I pass through PCM digital from my Sony TV to my SuperNait DAC, but this only works reliably for BluRay.

I run analogue direct from my muli region DVD player to my SuperNait.

I run analogue direct from my cable box to my SuperNait.

It would be neat if the TV could convert everything to PCM for my SuperNait DAC, but it can't.

What are your AV sources?

Thanks for your reply winkyincanada!
My only other AV sources are a BluRay player and a Sky+ box (switching to HD next week) - both have phono audio out sockets. Is this my solution as I don't have the benefit of having "an analogue and digital control & connection hub" that you have with your Supernait.

If you don't have, nor want a DAC, then just run the analogue direct from your two sources to your 52. It doesn't have to go via the TV. The only slight inconvenience is having to select different inputs when switching sources.

Thanks. I've connected the Sky + box. The lip-sync is not great so guess I will need to buy a DAC at some stage!

Your Skybox might have a lipsync adjustment?

Can't find anything in system set up?

There is a audio delay on the sky box but unfortunately only for the optical sound output as far as I'm aware.

regards Jase.

Do a software reset/cleanup.
Pull out the Sky box mains plug, hold down the Back Up button, plug the mains lead in, still holding the BU button down until all the front panel lights come on, release Button. Leave until message clears (if TV was left on) or for about 10 mins.
You won't loose any progs.

This has re-synced lips for me, sometimes stopping and starting the programme works too.

Thanks for the tip this has worked for me too!! Let's hope that the HD box that's being installed next week doesn't create any further "challenges"!?
Thanks everyone for their help and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Excellent Lloydy, unfortunately what I said applies to the Sky + HD box too.
It's something to do with the disc handling system, that procedure is like a defrag on Windoze. A small price to pay really.
