I Spent 10 minutes deliberating between formats at HMV oxford st today. Standard Cd at 10.99, Cd with free dvd with making album short film and a couple of song vids at 14.99 or double gatefold vinyl at 15.99.
This would have been a no brainer choice in vinyl's favour up until about 18 months ago -(when the cds3 came into the system and really took cd to a different place to before).
Anyhow the fact that (with no extra tracks) the double vinyl is nicely spread over 4 sides and the fact that the album was recorded simply and quickly with minimal overdubs pushed me in favour of the heavy stuff. The nice vinyl packaging didn't hurt either. Many modern commercial pressings have been pretty shoddy of late IME. It will be interesting to see if my hunch was right this time.
The added faff of burning a cd, sticking the cd into my pc and manually writing the track names for itunes use is another pain for vinyl heads who like their ipods - oh well...
Anyhow - i'll report back on how the album sounds tommorow. By all accounts it is the mans best work for over a decade. Fingers crossed.
