DAC/Transporter

Hi,

My logitech transporter is connected to Naim DAC with a DC 1. My question what is optimal settings for audio settings in squeezebox server to get get top notch audio?

There are sooo many config settings in squeezebox...digital o/p encoding..word clock...clock source and many besides and I don't have a "scubby" what to do!!

As always..please help!!

There are no settings in TP which can affect the quality of the output bitstream.
You can't use a word clock with Naim DAC as Naim DAC does not support slaving the transport or slaving itself to the transport. Because DAC uses a different philosophy to recover a clock from input bitstream.
Just connect TP to the DAC -- and this will be a top-notch combo for a penny.
One of the best sources I heard so far.

Dustysox was refering to setting on the Sueezebox Server not on the Transporter.

I can imagine Squeezebox Server might have all kinds of setting for transcodings.
Though my advice would be to leave everything untouched by Squeezebox so no degrading processing has to take place on the original digital files. I would make sure all music is stored in a lossless format that both Transporter can play and Squeezebox can stream so no transcoding is required.

Hi,

Thank you for your help.

I have downloaded some HD music, on Transporter it shows it as 24 bit 48kHz. Should the HD light be on the DAC?

Every day's a school day..and with your help I would like to learn!!

If I remember correctly, the HD light will only switch for sampling rates > 48 kHz not just equal to 48 kHz.

If you are into classical you can find some nice HiRes free samples here http://www.2l.no/hires/index.html

On the audio settings for the Transporter, the ones to look out for are:

Crossfade
Effects Loop
Replay gain

All should be set to off/disabled/none or whatever is the obvious 'no thanks' option. These all mess about with the 'bit perfect ness'. You could also set the volume to 100% to remove the digital volume control.

Agree. These all seem to be so natural that I start forgetting them Smile
The short path to the best bitstream is 1. Not to change any factory settings, 2. Set volume up to 100%.
