Help!! 552 is dancing on one leg.

Posted by: Nan on 29 February 2004

I did a spring clean this morning...switching off and disconnect the system. On reconnection, the left chanel seems to be dead. If I turn the balance towards the dead chanel and increase the volume, you can hear music, but faintly.

Incidently, when I select mono on the pre it plays through both speakers, but in mono.

Any ideas.

Sounds like a source problem or source interconnect problem, not the 552. Unless of course its happening on all sources?

Thanks Garyi.

My only source is CD!

It was perfectly ok yesterday.

Do you have another ineterconnect you could use.

Also try a different input on the 552

My thinking might be buckled so working through it:

One channel of sound with channel bleed (normal)

Would indicate that one channel is not working at all when you switch to mono the sound comes from both speakers, this would imply that the pre amp is OK, just not recieving signal for one channel.

Its times like this you wish you had phono leads!

For certain change to a different input and change the interconnect between cd and amp. If you only have one check it very carefully for damage, stretching etc.

Your question got me thinking.

I just opened up the interconnect, and guess what...one of the wires is broken.

I quess you were right.

Thanks again.
