I bought a NAT02 last week to upgrade an '03, and am very impressed by the result (amazed that radio could be so good - there was a gregorian mass broadcasted live on Flemish radio this morning, and it got me ... religious!). So impressed, in fact, that I have decided to immediately trade it in for a NAT01 to get an even better result.
Now I know the importance of having a good aerial, but I don't know how a good aerial is supposed to compare to a cable connection. I am (still) listening via cable (the same cable which is used for television and internet - but the three are never used at the same time), and the signal is (I think) amplified upon entering the house.
Have any of you made an A/B test of a good aerial vs. cable connection? Is there any way to improve the signal from a cable connection without switching to an aerial (given that 98% of Flemish households have cable, certain radio stations do not even transmit by 'air' anymore)?

Well, my NAT01 is promised for this Friday 11/1, so the NAT02 (which I bought last Friday 4/1 new from Ghijsens in Hasselt, Sint-Truidersteenweg 12) should be available with them the same day. If NAT01 and NAT02 are to be discontinued in the near future, I trust that Naim will have the integrity of immediately pointing that out on this forum, so as that we can just order the new models in stead.
Regards,
Carl

Carl,
I have a Leak Troughline to compare and find the cable quality very good indeed. The difference is there to be heard as long as you are sitting down and "seriously listening." If its just background music whilst doing other things then the difference is almost inaudiable. The main difference I notice is a fuller warmer sound with more body, especially in the bass area.
Does anybody know how cable radio is transmitted? Maybe its like DAB which uses a form of MPEG compression to get down the line to be decoded by the boxtop set?? Or maybe there is an FM decoder in the boxtop set as well....?? I dont know but I do prefer the Leak at the end of the day, so your Naim should be pretty damn good.... especially at the price....!!!!!
If it's not demonstrably better, send it back, stick to the cable and go lie on the beach somewhere hot!!!
