internet connection...help!

Posted by: lutyens on 16 March 2008

Forgive me but if anyone can help.....My laptop has found and connected to the wireless internet connection in my house. I know this because if I go to the connections page on my control panel it says it is connected. It also downloads programme updates etc.

However my IE page cannot see the connection and wants to use the VClite connection I use for work. In fact if I look at the connections the IE page sees, it does not list my wireless modem at home. I tried setting up a new connection but it won't let me find the current connection.

I am sure its a 'button' somewhere but any help would be hugely appreciated.

many thanks

I suspect that the browser is trying to go through your work's proxy server. Go to [Tools> Internet Options] from the menu bar, Select the [Connections] tab and click the [LAN Settings] button. Uncheck all the boxes, but remember which as you will need to recheck them to use your laptop again at work. See if this works and if not get back to me!

You could always do what I do when I'm frequently changing between networks and install a second browser such as firefox and configure one for each network!

Thank-you, that worked a treat. The idea of two browers seems a ridiculously simple solution and one that must be used! I will see how I get on.
