DVI - Loss of picture

Posted by: Charles Paterson on 02 June 2008

Hi, just thought I'd try here before getting in touch with a dealer.

I used my DVD5 about 2 weeks ago using the DVI & it was working perfectly, I tried to watch a film on Thursday & all I got was snow, I've tried using the BNC & scart & the picture is perfect, has anyone got any idea or should I get in touch with the dealer now?

Charlie

P.S. I've tried going through my scaler & direct to the TV with the same results, I've also tried resetting the DVD5.

I recently reconfigured some computers that where moved to a new building before. One had no picture over DVI. Someone managed to bend a few pins inside the DVI connector so badly that they had no contact... Had to replace the cable.

But in your case, it could be more a HDCP problem. Have you tried to switch the gear on in different sequence, so that the copy protection handshake can take place right? DVD before TV or the other way round to see what happens. Probably unplug and replug while switched on to force a new handshake?
For the tests I would connect directly to the TV. Every device in between a HDMI chain makes it more complicated for the handshake to come through. When one device does not respond fast enough, there's a timeout and all you get is snow. Try a forum search.

Have you resetted the TV too (unplugged from power for a few minutes)? Has it more than one digital input to try? Do you have something else than the DVD5 to test on that digital input?

Do you have the newest firmware on all devices?

Hope you'll find the bug.

Hello! I've had a go at everything on your post & all I still get is snow. It's not a total disaster as the other outputs work fine, it's more annoying than a problem.

Thanks for your help, Charlie
