Power distribution advice required
Posted by: adymcd on 17 March 2007
OK I moved into the house two years ago and found at that point that one of the sockets in the corner of my lounge was not switched with the others it has it's own spur. I never really thought about it again but I am now begining to understand that this is good news.
All I need to know is how to set my system up cdx5/Hicap2/112/150. Can I only plug one unit into this socket, if so which one? Or do I just need some form of distribution?
All ideas and specific recomendation of what works well with Naim would be appreciated as I am really new to this.

Options are:
cheapest - a 4-way power bar
next - replace the single socket with four sockets (better still, six, for future upgrades)
most expensive - use a hydra or other single socket - multi output power provider.
I have a single spur and had the electrician shove a six pack of wall sockets up. Perhaps other Forum members will give us their experience. Not convinced that given a decent mains supply it makes all that much difference.

Hello Adymcd,
Instead of plugging the Hi-Fi there (and moving it all around), why not simply plug every components that could possibly generate spur noise pollution for the Hi-Fi into it?
What a great occasion you have to put about the DVD player, the satellite receiver, the computer, and about every devices powered by a switching power supply into that dedicated socket (but don't plug the TV there).

Bye.

In my view good mains supply is an almost critical part of the performance of a system.
To change the cable of my hifi spur a few months ago I had to plug my system into a 'normal' (unswitched, unfused) wall socket of the house. I checked all the connections twice as I just couldn't believe the massive degradation.
I'm a strong believer to power a Naim system from one spur or socket. In your case I would use a hydra or PowerIgel to juice your system from that good socket.

Search for Hydra on the forum.
