Eyeconnect folder erroneously shows on Uniti
Posted by: CecilCooper on 03 November 2010
Hi
I'm trying to run Eyeconnect version 1.6.2 on a mac running os x 10.6.4. I have a naimuniti version 2. Eyeconnect has installed fine by the looks of it and I have selected to share my content in iTunes, as well as my whole music folder.
when I try to access via the Uniti's upnp input, I can see eyeconnect. When I select it, I see the two choices I've chosen to share. But when I click in to either of them it says <empty>. Yet I have thousands of files there...
I have disabled the mac firewall, shared the relevant folders with read/write priveliges, and am running a BT Homehub router, both mac and uniti connected via ethernet cables.
Anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks

Has eye connected indexed the files yet, this can take a while.

Any way to tell?
I don't hear the hard drive whirring away. But I don't think I ever heard it accessing to index so that sounds a likely culprit.
Although if it simply hadn't finished indexing, wouldn't it just show a partial listing rather than <Empty>?
All very strange! Is there a limit to the number of files that eyeconnect can handle? I have 28,000 files.

I have a similar set-up to you and had the same problem with EyeConnect not seeing the content of my iTunes folder. You could try pointing it directly at the 'iTunes Music' folder within iTunes, although you won't get any playlists that you might have created in iTunes.
Have you looked on the Eyeconnect support forum? There may be an answer there.
Unless you really want to run Eyeconnect I suggest you don't waste much more time on it & try one of the alternatives such as 'AllegroMediaServer' 'iSedora' or 'Twonky'. I use iSedora with no problems.

1.6.2 isn't the latest version - have you tried 1.6.7?
Are you sharing audio or video too? EyeConnect will show folders for either, but these will be empty if, for example, you browse your iTunes music folder under the Movies heading.
If looking for alternatives, allegro is old and buggy, Twonky may work for you (but not my Mac), iSedora sounds okay but is pricey. You could try Majestic which is free or Playback which is inexpensive and pretty solid (plus it includes FLAC support).
Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies
Yes, I have tried 1.6.7 and the same thing.
Using another renderer, the files still aren't showing up, so it seems the problem is with eyeconnect or my mac configuration and not the naim uniti.
I'll post in the eyeconnect forum
Thanks to all

Interestingly my installation of eyeconnect has become a little quicker but the listings for artists now show jumbled up - rather than alphabetically which is odd. Tried Majestic but it stubbornly refuses to show any music out of the iTunes folders.
On a side point Remote 2 is quick and very slick on my iMac.

What format are your tunes in?
I suggest converting a few to MP3 and see where you get.
The only other suggestion I have is one of firewalls, i.e. have you turned in on, on the mac (I never have). And then that dreaded BT router. log onto the router and check that UPNP is allowed.
If after all this you still get failure. Bin the BT and buy something else.

Good point Gary - are the files AIFF or ALAC or anything not supported by the Uniti?

I have the same problem with eyeconnect and a qute.
I've tried both 1.67 and 1.63 versions with the same result - music is '<empty>'
iTunes library is mostly alac, with some mp3 and aac also.
The driver to attempting eyeconnect was for the built-in support for alac transcoding.
I'm actually mostly interested to see if there is a sound quality difference between a direct toslink connection and upnp, because if there is not the experience using the apple control options is far nicer than the upnp or qute controllers that I have seen so far!

I am interested in the same and use Eyeconnect to transcode aiff to the Uniti. Works OK but the listing of artists is a bit random. SQ is very good and I am trying to compare to optical input from Macbook Pro.
I suspect that streaming has the edge but...and this is a big but I find UPnP very awkward.

I had the same problem with Eyeconnect and when I contacted Elgato about the issue they were no help. What I was looking for was how to point Eyeconnect to the iTunes Library file on my Mac. My solution was simple in the end and it was to do with how I transferred my iTunes folder from my old PC onto my Mac. The library file extension on a PC is "iTunes Library.itl" which will work on a Mac but the Mac extension should just read "iTunes Library" so all I did was remove the .itl from the file extension on the Mac, then stopped and started Eyeconnect, then bingo the Uniti could see the iTunes Library files.
Hopefully this will work for you.
To find your Library file it should be in the music folder in Finder.
Finder-(places should be your user name)-Music-iTunes

Interestingly I now have exactly this problem ... Worked yesterday now shows up as empty. Will see if a reboot of Imac will work.
