Progress Report

About a year ago, I picked four composers, a few selective works from each, and made an attempt to memorize the themes.
These are the works :
Stravinsky : Petrouchka, Pulcinella and the Ebony Concerto.
Chopin : The complete preludes
Bach : Book 1 Preludes from the WTC
Beethoven : the symphonies and the last 3 piano sonatas.
I have been somewhat successful, but never perfect.
I have noticed this. It is easier to devote more of myself to actually listening.
Others results may vary :-)
It has been an object lesson in remembering that music expresses the inexpressible, for which there are no words.
George set me off on a new tangent. The study of baroque ornamentation. It makes perfect sense to study baroque ornamentation, as it is fundamental to that music. Seems interesting.
And Fred Simon put me onto some new jazz. I'm waiting for it to arrive.
