AV2 No Signal
Posted by: Trevor on 12 July 2007
Since changing my Sky+ box to a Sky HD box virtually every time I switch the AV2 on from being in stand-by for a while it has no sound and displays "No Sig". This is only resolved by switching the AV2 off completely and then back on. I am using the fibre digital input on the AV2 for Sky and as far as I am aware the AV2 has the latest version of software.
Has anyone else had this problem or got any ideas?

Latest firmware is AVC0107/F658
-does it happen with both PCM stereo and 5.1 broadcasts...
-does it happen if you switch AV2 on first and then sky hd box (or vice versa depending on your power up sequence)
when it happens again intsead of power cycling the AV2, try:
-power cycling sky box instead of AV2
-change input from "sky" input on AV2, and back to it again
do any of these diagnostic steps cure the problem?

Hi AV@naim,
Thank you for the quick reply and info. I will make a note of them all and come back with some answers the next time it happens.
Regards - Trevor
PS Just checked the software version of my AV2 and it is AVC0106/F658 so I was wrong about it being the current version for a start.

Hi AV@naim
Back again,
Well it took a while to happen again but it has, obviously didn't think much to BBC HD Last Night of the Proms. As requested,
Tried switching of Sky box then back on.
Changing inputs on AV2
Changing Modes on AV2
Putting AV2 into stand-by then back on
None of the above made any difference.
Only thing that corrects it is to pull the plug on AV2.
One thing that does seems different is if I switch the Sky box off whilst listening through the AV2, the AV2 just flashes No Sig then goes back to displaying the set volume.
When the AV2 screws up from coming out of stand by all it does is flash No Sig 5 times quickly then stays on for around a second and then flashes 5 times quickly again, you cannot get it to display the volume or anything else only No Sig.
Does that help at all!!!!

-does it happen with both PCM stereo and 5.1 broadcasts?
-does it specifically happen going from one to the other or back again?
-have you tried the other optical input?
The flashing bars are the AV2's "grace" period whilst it locks on to the SPDIF stream and checks the format in the header.
Usually if a signal is present it flashes 3 times and locks on. If no stream is present it usually flashes 5 times, says "no sig" and then displays volume.
Either
-the SKY box is not always sending the correct SPDIF info
-the connection between devices is iffy
-the AV2's processor board is not getting the SPDIF stream from the SPDIF input chips correctly, internally

Little bit more info,
It has only ever happened when the Sky box was already on and the AV2 is switched on from standby. It has never happened whilst switching inputs or modes on the AV2, therefore I don't know if it is a PCM or 5.1 input although when I rebooted it last night the Proms signal to the AV2 was 3/2.
When it fails I don't get the flashing grace period bars it is the NO SIG that is flashing 5 times then steady and it never displays the volume.
I have poked and pulled the optical cable in a very technical manner but makes no difference.
Will try the other optical input and report back.
Many Thanks - Trevor
