WiFi Dropping out when using N-Stream App on iTouch
Posted by: ast2312 on 15 January 2011
I use the n-stream app on my iTouch(4) to control my Unitiqute. All works well for approximately 20-30 minutes but then the iTouch tells me that the Wifi signal has been lost and ceases to work. When I press the home button the Wifi signal is still strong. I have tested in the room with the Unitiqute and nest to the router and the problem is the same. The app version is the most recent from 7 Jan and I am sure my wifi strenght is strong enough.
Has anybody else experienced this and knows of a way to fix this?
Hi All,
My iTouch now works perfectly. I turned on the Stay Connected option on in the app but still the problem occurred. I then downloaded the latest version of the app and all works well. Hope this is of help.
Hi Al, just to be clear are using Aiport Extreme as the wireless access point? If so you might want to check the multicast rate under wireless options.. is it is set at something like 2Mbps? You must ensure muticast is enabled on the wireless network. Some Wireless Access Points disable wireless muticast to increase performance - such as the default with some Cisco WAPs. With out multicast the NDX will lose sync with the server and controller and will either require a very lengthy timeout or a power cycle. Most plug and play consumer stuff has no option but to leave multicast enabled at the slight expense of possible performance penalty - but its worth checking.

Thanks Simon - I have discovered you are a bit of the guru around these parts when it comes to all things "tech!" I checked the settings and there are 3 options for Multicast (low, med, or high). It was set on low, I now switched it to high. I'll see what happens. I don't really understand what each setting is doing but I'm assuming going from low to high is good? Might medium be preferable - I really don't know. Thanks for you input I appreciate it! Cheers.
Actually–within the United States, they are tremendously ahead of the pack on the networked streaming audio side of things...!
What you might require is a DHCP address reservation (by hardware MAC address, XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX) for your devices, which will insure that they appear on the network at an expected address per device–in some systems, this can make all the difference.
Thanks Dave - I'll look into this also, and see what ProMusica may have to add as well. I'll be sure to post what worked once I get it resolved!
Also, Al–if you are in the city, and there are a lot of wireless networks around you, it may be useful to use an app (e.g., Wi-Fi Scanner on the Mac) to map out the available wireless channels (there are both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) and set your Time Capsule to fixed channels. ProMusica should be able to sort this out for you.
Great news!! Glad it is now all working

Nice work Simon!
Your in-depth knowledge, and your willingness to help others solve technical problems, are both very admirable qualities.
Like so many other members, I appreciate your contributions, and hope that Naim does as well.
Thanks a lot man!

Can you advise what else you have on your network and even their IP addresses. Could there be a device with a static address coming on in your network like a laptop or printer that has a static IP address which is clashing with you a DHCP assigned IP address?
How strong is the wireless signal at your NDX and iPad, and what wireless securiy are you using. Finally just checking you don't have two DHCP processes running on the same network (subnet) ie one on your AE and one on your broadband router.
