record shops

Any tips for 'independent record shops' in Leicester and Nottingham? New, Used, vinyl mainly if possible - late 20th century; GB Indie, Alternative, Jazz... well, hell... all suggestions welcome.

My experience of visiting Leicester is that there is not a lot there these days.
If you come down south, Resident and Borderline in Brighton are both excellent - the best I have found in the UK recently.

Unfortunately you have missed out because Selectadisc would fitted your bill perfectly but closed a year ago.

Nottingham still has a Fopp - not indpendent, but pretty good for alternative and a decent smattering of jazz. It also has a good independent classical music shop called "The Classical Music Shop" if that interests you.

Wow! Thanks for the responses. I haven't been to London for some time, or Brighton... the problem is the missus' senses a vinyl hunt whenever I suggest an unusual day-trip; I'll need a lot of Brownie points to get to half the London ones Whizzkid!
I will give Fopp a try in Nott'm (the one in Leamington Spa was good, before it went DVD and finally closed)

Won't help the OP - sorry - but if you are near Kingston-upon-Thames, Banquet Records are good to have as a local - check the website to see if the music fits.
Cheers,

We have veered off the OP - but, I do have a bus pass so keep them coming. Incidentally, adding to DennisA's post, perhaps we can compile links to a few recommended 'on-line shops' as an reliable alternative to 'bay. (maybe a list already exists/maybe it wouldn't be appropriate on this forum?) These days I'm finding I'm doing a lot of on-line shopping and inspite of an occasional 'postie-folded-and-posted-through-the-door' 12", I'm having a lot of fun.
I miss the musty cardboard smell though.
Try this...
www.normanrecords.com
The reviews are great; straightforward and delivered with (some) pithy panache.

The one in Lewisham is Collections (I think). You could combine with a visit to a naim dealer who (a propos another recent thread) is rather good but unfortunately doesn't post here as far as I know.
If you only visit one record shop in London, make it Rough Trade East stopping only to buy a fearsome curry and some ridiculously cool skinny purple trousers - all in (just about) the same street!
