Rush 2011 - Including entire Moving Pictures

Posted by: anderson.council on 20 November 2010

An Evening with RUSH - Featuring for the First Time Ever MOVING PICTURES IN ITS ENTIRETY

May 12 Dublin, Ireland O2
May 14 Glasgow, Scotland SECC
May 16 Sheffield, UK Motorpoint Arena
May 19 Manchester, UK MEN Arena
May 21 Newcastle, UK Metro Radio Arena
May 22 Birmingham, UK LG Arena
May 25 London, UK O2
May 29 Frankfurt, Germany Festhalle

Bought a new DAB/iPod unit last night and heard on Planet Rock that Rush were coming to the UK next year - and knowing there are a few fans here thought I'd check it out.

This will be the first time I'll have seen them since the ... err the original Moving Pictures/Exit Stage Left tour in 1981 at a cattle shed near Edinburgh called Inglestson Royal Highland Show. In other words Wembley Arena without seating or any difference in floor level beteen the stage and the rear of the hall. Looking at the venues for next year I'm not hopeful of much of an improvement in 30 years. Here's hoping.

Rush

Cheers

Anyone thinking of going to the London gig - it's the only one I can make?

London would be my first choice but can't say the thought of navigating my way to the O2 inspires me. So possibly Birmingham which is easier to get to and is on a weekend may end up as the favoured option.

Thanks Scott - I have been waiting for this. Never seen them before.

Thanks for the tour dates. Judging from the past few tours expect a great performance but awful sound.

I saw them in Mnachester (2003) and Sheffield (2006) and the sound was plain bad. Sheffield Arena is actually worse than Wembley Arena for sound.

FWIW I saw them the last two times in Manchester, and from where I was sat (lower tier, either side of the stage) the sound was perfectly acceptable. Two great shows they were as well.

Looking forward already to May!

London for us,25th is a Wednesday, they have left a couple of dates for extra gigs though Smile .
It will interesting to see if they can sound good at the O2.
On the last 2 occasions '06 and 07 (I think) at Wembley , 07 was better than 06.

If it was going to be at Wembley, I don't think I would bother. It is such a s**t hole. I have always found the sound good at the O2 and it is a nice venue to visit.

Any opinions on the NEC - never been there (except for car show a million years ago) but if the O2 is pretty good (as these places go) I might change my mind and go south.

Scott - I think the O2 is by far the best big concert venue in the land - that would be my choice.

Got 2 tickets in Block B3 at O2 (decided to follow Adrian's advice).

Be quick - there was nothing left in A1 or B1.

Cheers

A friend has got me a ticket for Manchester. I don't know where though.

Don't look like we are going.
My "dealer" was having PC troubles earlier and now the site is refusing my cards.
SWMBO will have an other attempt tonight. Frown

Howard - it was only a small presale this morning. Planet Rock are doing another presale tomorrow at 9am - check their site for details. If not Friday on sale is another chance.

Good luck Howard - I was on the site right on the stroke of 09:00 and although I could select seats in A1 & B1 - when I clicked on the purchase link I was informed there were no seats available so pleased to get B3.

Looking forward to it very much. New venue (to me) to see one of my all time favourite bands (probably top 3 along with Floyd & Zep) play one of their best albums. Maybe next time they come they could do all of Farwell to Kings ... dreaming I know.

Cheers

My mate Glen managed to get Block B1 row W seats so it all worked out in the end.

Actually MP and FTK would make a good first half?

Can't do the Scottish show as it's my wife's birthday, and I don't think she'd fancy it... hey ho. But I might go to Newcastle to join a friend there.
SECC has mixed memories. Saw them on the Roll The Bones tour there in the early 90s and it was excellent, walked out of the R30 show a couple of tracks after half time because the sound was soooooooo bad (far, far too much uncontrolled, bloated bass drowning out all the actual basslines).

Pete.

Wembley was a bit like that too.
