This is my favourite music dvd!
I haven't played it for a few years, my present old 3:4 telly don't do it justice, but very much looking forward to playing it again very soon on a new plasma wide screen.
Mademoiselle Nobs is the real star of this show! : )

I got a 100hz lcd because of the size as i needed a 32''.
I've heard many different opinions on plasma and a couple of friends say they are the best.
But i would take a closer look at the new led systems as well.
imho

'Live at Pompei' is shot in 4:3, so a wide screen will not improve it. I presume you are putting the sound through your amp anyway.
In case people have missed it, in the extras you can play the original film, original footage and edit, and without the sound effects dubbed over for the modern additions.
I have never made it through the new edit, I just wanted to have the original film, and it is in there, a little hidden.

The original concert is 4:3 but the Director's Cut & Documentoary is 16:9 so a bigger and wider sceen for me please! : )quote:Originally posted by JamieL_v2:

I didn't realise that the 'directors cut' was wide screen. They must be masking of the original footage, or 'fake widescreen' as wikipedia refer to it.
'Directors cut' with film is the same as remaster for audio. The cut of 'Live at Pompei' is not the original directors cut, not his re-edit, but a new cut with sound effects and most library footage added.
Wikipedia - Live at Pompei
With almost all directors cuts on film, they simply add in footage that was thought to slow the film down too much for cinema audiences, not such a problem at home, where you can pause the play for tea and other breaks.
'Directors cuts' are very rarely the original cut the director wanted, and those are generally unlikely to be released (for instance Terence Malick's 'Days of Heaven' at 3 hours, not the 1.45 of the production companies cut). Like remasters of CDs they are mostly a way of reselling the same project in another way.
All that said, if you prefer the new version, then enjoy that, it is really down to the version that you come to know.

I, by default(it's the one I picked up,not specifically chosen) have the 2003 version, the original is a "bonus" which is a bonus.
I must watch it again soon.

Just watches Robbie Williams at the Albert Hall on Blu-Ray.
Fantastic quality picture and sound.
And he could certainly work and audience.

Danny Thompson on upright bass, Michael Jerome on drums.
Watch this & dispel any doubts you may have about RT being one of our very best guitarists and singer/songwriters.

Fanbloodytastic that is Tony. RT is a genius of the the guitar and a poet.
DT ain't too shabby either.
