Posted by: malicorne on 02 January 2011

Hello,
Just a question from a n-Vi newbie user : after speaker test the system display the following status :
Front : OK
Center : TRIP
Surround : TRIP
Why "TRIP" ? What does it means ?
Regards.

Maybe I didn't read the manual properly or it's because I set it all up manually, but what is "autotest"?

I read somewhere that during powering on, n-Vi tests that speakers are properly connected (the reason why you hear some cracking noise). I just called it "autotest". You're right it's not the exact word used in manual. Is "speaker test" better ? Sorry but I have no rights to change tittle.

Trip means that the amp protection has tripped. That means there's a problem. Have you got a short-circuit with the speaker leads or connections? Are you trying to drive very low impedence speakers?

Check the connections and leads and then try re-setting the n-Vi.

Thank you Richard for your quick answer. I use normal impedence speakers (8 Ohms)and I already tested there is no short-circuit... I 'll try again.
My system is a second-hand one and I have not get specific Naim plugs. Do you know if it's possible to buy n-Vi speaker plugs ? I had a look on tomtom website, but they seem not to supply it.

If James is your Naim dealer then give him a call. He should be able to get some from Naim for you.

I checked / changed all conections and reset the system. The problem seems to be fixed (no more error status). Thank you for your help.
PS : I do not know who is James. I'll contact AD (in France).
Have a nice day.

James is the owner of "tom tom audio" Smile

Good to hear you got it fixed. Did you actually find the cause of the problem or was it just gone after some jiggling around?

No, I don't know exactly what happened. I re-connected speakers, changed one or two banana plugs, reset the system (by powering down the system and not only pressing the front standby key) and ... it works. Confused

Somebody can tell me what the system do during power up and generates such noises and crackles on each speaker ? I wonder it's normal. Do you think if it's possible to avoid it (by-pass) and power on quietly ?
