Naim 62-90 combination

Posted by: Bonaventura on 28 March 2004

I will be a new naim user that I expected.
I live in South korea and I am new to this forum. So excuse my ignorance of naim equipment.

I am currently finding good naim amps but It's hard work to find second hand good naim amps in Korea. After one year ago, naim have grasped public interest. So the difficuty is more and more....^^ Anyway...^^

Yesterday, I found the seller who have used naim amps. The combination of naim is 62/90 (all olive colour)
cost is very high, I think. Approximately, 1230 dollar.

I have some silly question.

Q1)
my system is right below
Cyrus Qartro + PXA Power + Linn Katan.
Does naim combination defeat this set?

Q2)
What version of olive color Nap90 ?
Is the naim combination that stated above recommendable?

Q3)
I found the linn waconda and LK 140, good price. But I can't find any good review regarding this linn comb. I want to know this linn comb and draw comparison between linn comb and naim combination.

Plz, give me good message....

Hi Bonaventura,

Welcome to the madhouse. I can't answer your questions but this may help...

$1230 would be expensive here in the UK for those but the Korean market for Naim is a lot smaller.

Ask what the serial numbers are and you can find out when they were manufactured from the main Naim site serial numbers page

You can then find out from Naim whether they have been serviced, they will need one after 8-10 years. Email Naim customer services, they are very helpful.

Hope this helps.

Hi Bonaventura,

I had a 62/90 for quite a while and was quite happy with it. But remember that the 90 power amp is no more than a power amp section from a Nait. If you could find one I think you would be better off with a 110 or 140. The 62 is a fine pre amp and should serve you well.

As to wether it betters your Cyrus/PSX is a difficult one to answer. From what little i've heard of modern Cyrus amps, (I had a Cyrus 1 many years ago) I would stick my neck out and say that a 62/140 for example would be a significant upgrade and I think you would be more than happy. A 62/90 on the other hand would not be such a clear cut choice, especialy given the highprice that youve given for the Naim combination.

The prise is ok here, in Israel. I think that the 90 is a mistake - ask for a 140.

The 62/140 can be a bit bright sounding.
Unless you've got a good front-end you may find it overpowering. With an LP12 it sounds fantastic, but with a mid-range mass produced CD player it can be awful (I know because that was my combo for a while).
