beam me up scotty

hi all,
some of you may remember my thread last week concerning my e bay bid for a cdx2. well im glad to say i won the bid and am now the proud owner of this cdp.i would like to tell you about my memorable day and following observations, so if i go on a bit please forgive me and try to stick with it as my points may be of help to imminent buyers of the cdx2.
friday evening : off i go cash in pocket to claim my great prize! arrive at pats house some 45mins later where he opens said box , to my glee there lies inside an absolutelly immaculate NEW!! cdx2 with all the essential bits and bobs in sealed polythene envelopes. the remote hasent even been opened as the new batts are in their own sleeve.( deep joy!!) my thanks to pat + sarah for their hospitality. so off i go twice as fast on return journey as im busting to get it home and up n running!!
arrive home and unpack cdx2 and place it on prime top shelf of rack where it shares rest of rack with 82/180. through pmcob1s.
i have sold my hi-cap and am going to get a supercap next! anyway turn on and that distinctive small naim logo lights up which exudes class. even wife shows interest by sitting on sofa and saying "looks nice" which is praise indeed. 1st in tray is the new blur album think tank. sounds more base heavy but remaining very smooth.
next up is kraftwerks tour de france. wow! the detail and scale is just awsome, even wife comments "i like that" .
next up is an all time fave, floyds dsotm on remaster. now im in hi-fi heaven, just feels so right am wanting to crank it up but cant as young ones in bed! but still enjoying the moment immensly.
next bjorks greatest hits and a particullar track i like is big time sensuallity (the flake mix). again the sheer quallity shines through in abundance, very nice indeed.
next is robert lucas built for comfort on the audioquest label. i love this great blues album the sound is superb on my old cdx, sure enough im not dissapointed. the instruments all coming together just as they should adding passion in the performance spuring wife into some kind of coma where shes laid down on sofa with eyes closed purring "lovelly sound" making me think i know what to do next time if you get my drift!!
one more cd before i retire to bed is the womderful blue niles legendary walk across the rooftops . ive always had a softspot for this album as its the 1st thing i heard at the sound organisation dealer in london bridge in 1971.
when buying my 1st system consisting of lp12-nait-kans, (those were the days). anyway what im getting at is the lp12 really made this album come to life, and as far as im concerned never heard it sound quite as good since!
on it went and sat back in anticipation........
oh yeah! title track sounds excellent , all the datail in the world - timing- great scale/rythm
just great. tinseltown in the rain is even better (if possible).
and so to bed..................................
saturday arrives and cant wait to stick on some rock and cranck it up, wife n kid go off to tescos sos perfect time to do it.
1st on is zepps, physical graffiti - in my time of dying is a fav of mine and straight away bonhams drumming drives the music on and plants vocals come through very well. the pmcs are singing like canarys on steroids!! this is great.
houses of the holy is track2 which i like also and again its hitting the spot!
i real test now its metallicas st.anger album which as many of you must be aware is something else power wise! frantic just leaps out at you like an exocet missile- absolutelly dominating your thought process, the depth attack and slam are just awesome. the next 2 tracks some kind of monster and dirty window go past oh so quickly as far as im concerned! very enjoyable indeed!!
time to calm down a bit now...............
gabriels, security album rhythm of the heat is the 1st track. the drumming is just superb on this song and im so looking forward to seeing him live soon. anyway back to the moment in time! san jacinto-i have the touch-shock the monkey-lay your hands on me , all superb!!
next duke by genesis , duchess sounds as though the band are in the room with me if that makes sense?
new greatest-of guns n roses is last to get the treatment at levels of around 9-10 o clock on the 82 volume knob. it sounds so good i cant help but creap it up a bit more!! especially like the stones track sympathy for the devil, sacrillage! i hear you cry , but thats what i thought at first but quickly forgot my predjidices and just enjoyed the music for what it is and how it was being portrayed. very enjoyable. the dynamic duo now return from tescos and the volume dies dramatically but still sounds great!! this is one class cdp!!!!
so to sum it all up at this very early stage....
build quality is 1st class
like the new style as the nice smooth dimming of display when track selection etc is selected and continues on.
sound wise : very smooth-detailed-rich,warm (lp12 like maybe)
one little niggle which i thought naim might have looked into is the problem of the easy way in which the puck can end up inside the cdx2. very annoying indeed!! surely it wouldnt be that difficult to make the height a wincey bit lower on the drawer sos not able to foul the top and drag the puck off its spindle and inside. i know its up to the user to make sure its on correctly i hear you screaming but try telling that to a woman or 13 yr old child who both enjoy my music collection! anyway thats the only very small gripe i have in what is an amazing cd player.
im over the moon with the cdx2 and am now returning to it to play some more music. (SOD THE TELLY) this is just too good.
makes me wonder just how good the cds3 must be if the cdx2 is sounding so good!! OH NO !! DONT EVEN GO THERE!! thanks to you all for sticking with my ramblings but just had to let you all know how i feel . i will give you an update in another week or so when it settles in more.
must now save like mad for the supercap then a xps2. CANT WAIT!! and IF your thinking of going for a cdx2 all i can say is just go for it big time you wont be dissapointed i assure you!!
best regards, scotty

Scotty - Thanks for the posting. Congratulations on a great purchase. I demo'ed the CDX2 some time ago and was blown away. I had the cash for a CD5 and maybe a FC2, but now I have neither and am patiently saving up for the CDX2. It is an awesome machine, and I can't wait until I get mine!

Scotty

It sounds like it's brand new.

If it is there is more to come!. I found I was still hearing something that would bring forth a "wow, never heard that on this track before" even after 4-6 weeks!

Geoff

Mine sounded absolutely fantastic over the weekend, I've only had it a week but it had improved considerably from cold. Nic e to know there's more to come.

Nice one Scotty. I have no doubt you were grinning from ear to ear when listening to In My Time of Dying.

The hicap is still impressing me, BTW. I am sure your 82 will forgive you when you do get round to getting the SCap.

Cheers

That cdx2 must be so good it is causing mild delerium. Walk across the Rooftops was released in 1983!
