Bose Lackstyle

Posted by: Ancipital on 29 March 2004

Thought I'd give you all a little description of a trip through Selfridges today.

Finished working at a clients this morning and on my way back to the office took a slight er....detour via Selfridges.

In the basement they have a "technology" department. In wandering through found the Bose lackstyle demonstration which they were blasting out. My god, what a disaster, the high notes sounded like they were being played through one of the audio birthday cards. There may have been a midrange, it was hard to tell. Drums were being hammered out on the backs of saucepans. The bass was totally disconnected from anything. In fact, it all gave me earache, eurgh!

They also had some B&O stuff there including a pair of those £10k weird upward firing speakers. Their plasma TV has an awful picture and I think their normal TV's have terrible styling. They also didn't even ask if the suited up bloke (me) passing through looking wanted any assistance.

A totally lacklustre experience. Oh to be back listening to my Naim after this most harrowing experience! Wink

On the subject of shop displays a while back I took a detour through John Lewis to kill a little time. Their plasma displays were woeful.

You need your ears syringed after listening to Bose/Boss/Bos-eh/Bozo as that stuff really gets in and does terrible damage to one's sanity.

RUN FOREST, RUN!!!!!!

Owing to the power of mainstream advertising; Joe Public would quote brand names like Bose and Technics as being good Hi-Fi.

Frightening eh?

Saying that, I did buy a plasma from them (5 year guarantee Big Grin) The set-ups of the plasmsa were terrible but that's because people kept messing with them before JL stored the remotes. In talking to them (when I got rid of the young know nothing and got the AV manager) they dug out the remotes and we spent the next 90 minutes reconfiguring and comparing the plasmas - consequently, got a Hitachi from them. Have to say, that's quite a long time to be demoeing stuff in an average hi-street store so I'm pleased the bloke showed so much interest rather than trying to palm me off.

"Joe Public would quote brand names like Bose and Technics as being good Hi-Fi"

Its true - all the 20 somethings who work for me think like this, and all because Naim dont do a factory fit sound option for the Audi TT Roll Eyes ..........and dont get me going on bl**dy iPods........

Repeat afterme: lp12/42/110

I think the word your looking for is sheep? Wink

Bloke at my friend's work was talking about hi-fi and his "good" hi-fi, the subject got onto who's got what at home. My friend (also my lodger) said Naim, 'coz I allow him to use it, this bloke says "Naim? Who are they? Can't be any good 'coz I've never heard of them" Sad sad sad sad sad

Steve (Still looking for a XPS2, a FC2/Hicap and a DVD5)

Bosh the ipod might well be the invention of this decade.

Its a fantastic product which has really inriched mine and my girlfriend life. I have most of my CDs available on a small system in the bedroom, and Sheila has around 4000 songs availabel to her at work.

The ipod was never marketed as hi end hifi.
